The bones of cuttlefish by Eugenio Montale( Book )

247 editions published between 1925 and 2018 in 6 languages and held by 974 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Eugenio Montale's epoch-making first book, Cuttlefish Bones (1925), has been hailed as one of the truly important works of poetry in the twentieth century. At once an earned poetic manifesto and spiritual autobiography, its dialogue between self and others, hope and despair, is sustained with absolute musical mastery and that simplicity-in-complexity that marks only the greatest poetry. -- W.W. Norton & Company

Collected poems of Lucio Piccolo by Lucio Piccolo( )

3 editions published in 1972 in English and held by 885 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In Piccolo's poems we meet a Sicily latent in the country of the tourist guides and the history books, but it was Piccolo far more than, say, his cousin Lampedusa, who was destined to draw out the latencies, read the signatures, crack the code ... These brilliant translations will serve to introduce a whole new sensibility to Anglo-American readers."--Anthony Burgess "Faithfulness, a loving adherence, a communion with and an entering into the spirit of the original are what we look for in a translation. We find these qualities abundantly in this rendering of Lucio Piccolo's poetry by Brian Swarm and Ruth Feldman. And we find yet more: a welcome clarification, for though Piccolo's poetry--one that tries to capture in a subtle web the atmosphere of a bygone world--is not obscure or oblique, yet, like all significant poetry, it is here and there open to a number of interpretations. Swann's and Feldman's translation, or interpretation, seems to me always felicitous and intelligent."--Arturo VivanteOriginally published in 1973. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. New poems : a selection from Satura and Diario del '71 e del '72 by Eugenio Montale( Book )

37 editions published between 1962 and 2018 in 9 languages and held by 788 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

7 editions published between 1966 and 1987 in 3 languages and held by 548 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Eugenio Montale's second book of poetry was first published in 1939. This book is his most experimental work, but a work no less tradition-saturated than Eliot's. As poet, private individual, and ""good European"," Montale's way of dealing with his difficulties was to seize the occasions offered him by writing poetry in which the lover's passions for his beloved country would convey the truth of both his public and his private situations
Satura : 1962-1970 by Eugenio Montale( Book )

First published in Italy in 1971, SATURA is the fourth collection of poems by Nobel Prize winner Eugenio Montale (1896-1981). Here the poet experimented with dialogue, journalistic notation, aphorism, commentary, and half-strangled song, pressing Italian literary language into terrain it never before had touched. Montale's talent defines a new lyric art
