El camino by
Miguel Delibes(
Book
)
334 editions published between 1950 and 2019 in 9 languages and held by 1,961 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"Upon entering the Royal Spanish Academy in 1975, Miguel Delibes delivered an address which reclaimed El camino (1950) for the emerging Green movement. With a blend of hilarity, satire, pathos and tragedy, Delibes artfully explores the process of crossing boundaries in pursuit of maturity and social advancement, whilst also implying that real education is the unfolding of the human heart among friends and sweethearts within a shared social and natural space. This new annotated version of the text comprises an introductory essay discussing green issues, attitudes towards the Spanish peasantry under Franco, and the function of the novel's subtly orchestrated comedy. It also contains explanatory notes on the text, discussion topics and an extensive Spanish-English glossary. This edition is intended primarily for English-speaking students of Spanish literature and culture at school and university."--Publisher's website

Las ratas by
Miguel Delibes(
Book
)
237 editions published between 1962 and 2018 in 9 languages and held by 1,286 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Although normally considered a work of social denunciation, the novel subtly delves into the mystery of good and evil. The protagonist is an eleven-year-old boy who possesses a strange wisdom and a no less singular kindness, all the more surprising considering the degenerate environment in which he was born (son of a paltry couple of stepbrothers who live in a cave) and the pettiness of his villagers. He comes to show himself as a prophet, when he seems to announce the salvation of the harvest by the North wind, and some character compares him to "Jesus among the doctors." It is, in short, an outbreak of purity amid so much misery, which resembles it to other protagonists of Delibes, innocent and hypersensitive, affected more than others by the evil of their peers but without catching it, like a curious spawn of original goodness. and the vice that, in Delibes's pessimistic vision, usually comes out triumphant, as the end of Las ratas shows

Aun es de día by
Miguel Delibes(
Book
)
26 editions published between 1949 and 1991 in Spanish and held by 488 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

USA y yo by
Miguel Delibes(
Book
)
25 editions published between 1966 and 2019 in 4 languages and held by 429 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
