Specification for the extensible configuration checklist description format (XCCDF) version 1.1
by Neal Ziring
(
Book
)
1 edition published in 2006 in English and held by 140 libraries worldwide This document specifies the data model and XML representation for the Extensible Configuration Checklist Description Format (XCCDF). An XCCDF document is a structured collection of security configuration rules for some set of target systems. The XCCDF specification is designed to support information interchange, document generation, organizational and situational tailoring, automated compliance testing, and compliance scoring. The specification also defines a data model and format for storing results of benchmark compliance testing. The intent of XCCDF is to provide a uniform foundation for expression of security checklists, benchmarks, and other configuration guidance, and thereby foster more widespread application of good security practices.
Top to bottom and end to end : improving the National Security Agency's strategic decision processes
by Leslie Lewis
(
Book
)
1 edition published in 2005 in English and held by 135 libraries worldwide The National Security Agency (NSA) is in the process of transforming itself while it conducts its current, midterm, and long-term missions. Are the changes NSA is making contributing to the accomplishment of this ambitious agenda? NSA has been implementing the recommendations of the authors of this report and previous reports to change the way it works to better respond to the needs of its overseers at the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community. To that end, it has established new corporate decision processes and formed a Corporate Review Group and an Office of Chief of Planning, Capabilities, and Performance. These bodies advise and inform the Director of NSA so he has the knowledge he needs to guide the agency as it transforms itself and performs its missions. This report chronicles the progress of these efforts and finds that, while the decision processes have been established, their full institutionalization is still in progress.
