In the belief that religious experience is the starting point of theological reconstruction, the author analyses here the characteristics, principles and nature of how man relates to God. Songs of Kabir by Kabir( Book )

20 editions published between 1915 and 2012 in English and Gujarati and held by 415 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The poet Kabr̤ is one of the most interesting personalities in the history of Indian mysticism. A great religious reformer, the founder of a sect to which nearly a million northern Hindus still belong, it is yet supremely as a mystical poet that Kabr̤ lives for us. A beautiful legend tells us that after his death his Mohammedan and Hindu disciples disputed the possession of his body; which the Mohammedans wished to bury, the Hindus to burn. As they argued together, Kabr̤ appeared before them, and told them to lift the shroud and look at that which lay beneath. They did so, and found in the place of the corpse a heap of flowers; half of which were buried by the Mohammedans at Maghar, and half carried by the Hindus to the holy city of Benares to be burned
The vision of God by Nicholas( Book )

6 editions published between 1928 and 1978 in English and held by 411 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Known for his deeply mystical writings about Christianity, Nicholas of Cusa wrote this, his most popular work, against a backdrop of widespread Church corruption. God, he believed, is found in all things, and thus cannot be perceived by man's senses and intellect alone. The path to ultimate knowledge, then, begins in recognizing our own ignorance. Deeply influenced by Saint Augustine, Nicholas mixes the metaphysical with the personal to create a deeply felt work, first published in 1453, designed to restore faith in even the most jaded

The school of charity; meditations on the Christian creed by Evelyn Underhill( Book )

25 editions published between 1934 and 1991 in English and held by 392 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In this little book, which is based upon the principal articles of the Nicene Creed, I have tried to suggest to the modern Christian how close the connection is between the great doctrines of his religion and that "inner life" which is too often regarded as a more spiritual alternative to orthodoxy: how rich and splendid is the Christian account of reality, and how much food it has to offer to the contemplative soul. - Preface

The adornment of the spiritual marriage, the sparkling stone, the book of supreme truth by Jan van Ruusbroec( Book )

27 editions published between 1916 and 2012 in English and held by 339 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

According to Jan-who was named a saint in 1908-the development of the soul has three stages: Active, Interior, Superessential. The Active life is that which men are most accustomed to: the life of the material world. The Interior life is the life of the spirit that is touched by religious contemplation. And the superessential life is that which lies beyond description and is man's existence in enlightenment. Written for Christians and spiritual seekers, The Adornment of the Spiritual Marriage is a guide for developing a deeply spiritual life

The cloud of unknowing by Anonymous Anonymous( Book )

17 editions published between 1922 and 2017 in English and Undetermined and held by 18 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Cloud of Unknowing draws on the mystical tradition of Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite and Christian Neoplatonism, which focuses on the via negativa road to discovering God as a pure entity, beyond any capacity of mental conception and so without any definitive image or form. This tradition has reputedly inspired generations of mystical searchers from John Scotus Erigena, through Book of Taliesin, Nicholas of Cusa and St. John of the Cross to Teilhard de Chardin
