Frustration and aggression by John Dollard( Book )

20 editions published between 1939 and 1967 in 3 languages and held by 1,014 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In the preparation of this book two aspects of the work of the Institute of Human Relations are illustrated. The first is that of cooperative research. The second aspect which this book illustrates is that of following a procedure of inquiry which is well known but seldom used in the social sciences. The problem of aggressive behavior is here advanced one step along this road which all social inquiry that aspires to become truly scientific must eventually follow. This step has consisted partly in a more systematic formulation and further elaboration of the Frustration-Aggression hypothesis which had already been stated by Freud and others, and partly in bringing together a larger body of relevant illustrative material. It is therefore in the nature of a second approximation looking toward a scientific theory of aggressive behavior. It is published in its present tentative form in the hope that it will stimulate further inquiry not only at the Institute but elsewhere. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2004 APA, all rights reserved)

The study tested the intercorrelations among various behaviors seen as reflecting identification, and looked at child-rearing antecedents of these behaviors as well
Survey of objective studies of psychoanalytic concepts; a report prepared for the Committee on Social Adjustment by Robert R Sears( Book )

39 editions published between 1942 and 1979 in English and held by 618 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The present report is a summary and appraisal of published investigations, both experimental and observational, that relate to problems and concepts deriving from Freudian theory. A further selection has been made within Freud's own theory. In order to keep the report of reasonable length, only those data have been included that relate to Freud's own theoretical formulations. A word must be said as to the quality of the data available for consideration in this survey. Much of the observational material quoted was secured by investigators whose interests had nothing to do with psychoanalysis. Their studies concerned other matters altogether, and some of them may be astonished to find their data put to the present use. Such material has been included in order to secure as complete a bibliography of relevant studies as possible"--Preface. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2007 APA, all rights reserved)
