Blazing saddles by Mel Brooks( Visual )

57 editions published between 1974 and 2014 in English and held by 3,251 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Never give a saga an even break! Blazing Saddles is an iconoclastic, not-politically-correct parody; one of the 1970s most successful and popular films. Every clichéd element from every Western ever made is turned upside down and inside out, while retaining all the familiar caricatures--eh, characters--of the genre: a dance-hall girl, a gunslinger, a sheriff, and a town full of pure folk. Mel Brooks redefined film comedy and proved that even sophomoric, scatological humor could be used to ridicule prejudice, injustice, and apathy

A bug's life( Visual )

1 edition published in 2003 in English and held by 1,585 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Cute and clever, "A Bug's Life" is a relatively straight retelling of Kurosawa's "The Seven Samurai," except of course that the characters are bugs! Idealistic young ant Flik is a sweet-natured dreamer and inventor. But his innovative thinking makes him an outcast when one of his inventions goes awry and destroys the food sacrifice that the colony makes annually to a gang of grasshopper hooligans led by the sinister Hopper. Disgraced, Flik is sent to look for "warrior bugs," mercenaries to fight them. What he finds--and hires--are a motley crew of circus bugs including a preening master-thespian mantis, a glamorous gypsy moth, a cranky ladybug, a dimwitted beetle, and sundry other dimwitted, craven troupers. The ant colony is inspired by the troupe and mobilizes, but when they discover that the "warriors" are just circus clowns they lose faith. In the end, of course, Flik and crew save the day and free the colony from the oppressive grasshoppers

History of the world, part 1 by Mel Brooks( Visual )

28 editions published between 1981 and 2013 in English and held by 1,344 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

... shows a rather different side of Moses, the Stone Age and the Roman Empire - in which Brooks is a stand-up philosopher playing Caesar's Palace. Next, the truth is finally told about the Spanish Inquisition in a splashy production number featuring song-and-dance monks and swimming nuns ... It's history as you've never known it - completely irreverent and positively hilarious. -- Container
