"Beginning Reading in an Open Classroom" discusses language development, sight vocabulary, visual discrimination, auditory discrimination, directional concepts, small muscle control, and measurement of abilities. "Beginning Math in an Open Classroom" describes stages of math development, activities for developing math skills, and evaluation of pupils' mathematical skills. "Five Children: Case Studies" presents the case studies of five children to illustrate how diagnosis and learning strategies were initiated. A conclusion discusses the lack of patterns in the development of a child's learning. Understanding faculty unions and collective bargaining : a guide for independent school administrators by Frank R Kemerer( Book )

2 editions published in 1976 in English and held by 87 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Faculty unionization in private schools and colleges poses a problem for already harried independent school administrators. The selection of a union, the end product of a series of difficulties, is a reaction to a situation that might have been altered had school administrators understood how unions come into being. This guide is intended to help administrators understand what a union is and the factors that promote its development. Included is a discussion of ways in which administrators can lessen the appeal of a union to faculty members. One section identifies the positive and negative consequences of unions, and one of four appendices provides information in question/answer form for those schools now negotiating with faculty unions. One appendix outlines a sample personnel policy, another is a glossary of labor terms, and the last is an annotated bibliography. (Author)

Changing patterns of school governance by Donald A Roberts( Book )

1 edition published in 1974 in English and held by 51 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The author examines innovative governance patterns in 25 independent schools around the country. Among student concerns are student councils, honor committees, students in advisory capacities, faculty-student senates, all-school meetings, and constitutions. Faculty concerns cover faculty associations, salary scales, faculty representation on boards, faculty meetings, and faculty roles in governance. Effective systems that involve students in governance, the author asserts, are invariably honest, simple in structure, small, challenging, unique to themselves, constantly changing, and based on a belief that some of our students are morally capable of making important decisions.
