566 editions published between 1910 and 2017 in 22 languages and held by 3,370 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This work is generally accepted as Rilke's most important prose work. It is autobiographical fiction, for Rilke thinly veils his own experiences under a romantic record of the memories, impressions and vicissitudes of an impoverished Danish poet living in Paris. A masterpiece of creative art and delicate portraiture, it is also an important document, throwing light on the genius of a great poet, whose work is a bold synthesis of Eastern mysticism and Western art. New poems by Rainer Maria Rilke( Book )

167 editions published between 1907 and 2015 in 7 languages and held by 1,036 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

New Poems (1907-1908) represented a departure for Rilke from the traditional German lyric poetry of which he was then considered a master. Apparent in these poems is the influence of Rodin -- for whom Rilke had worked -- as well as other visual artists, including Hokusai, Cezanne, Van Gogh, and Picasso. In this collection, Rilke forced his language to extremes of subtlety and refinement that only now, in Stephen Cohn's translations, is being captured properly in English
Gedichte by Rainer Maria Rilke( Book )

246 editions published between 1900 and 2012 in 12 languages and held by 931 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge by Rainer Maria Rilke( Book )

12 editions published between 1969 and 1990 in English and German and held by 813 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This is the definitive, widely acclaimed translation of the major prose work of one of our century's greatest poets -- "a masterpiece like no other" (Elizabeth Hardwick) -- Rilke's only novel, extraordinary for its structural uniqueness and purity of language. First published in 1910, it has proven to be one of the most influential and enduring works of fiction of our century. Malte Laurids Brigge is a young Danish nobleman and poet living in Paris. Obsessed with death and with the reality that lurks behind appearances, Brigge muses on his family and their history and on the teeming, alien life of the city. Many of the themes and images that occur in Rilke's poetry can also be found in the novel, prefiguring the modernist movement in its self-awareness and imagistic immediacy. Uncollected poems by Rainer Maria Rilke( Book )

11 editions published between 1995 and 1998 in English and German and held by 726 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Between the New Poems of 1907 and 1908 and his death in 1926, Rainer Maria Rilke published only two major volumes of poetry - the Duino Elegies and the Sonnets to Orpheus, both in 1923. But during this period he wrote poetry continually, often prolifically - in letters, in guest books, in presentation copies, and chiefly in the pocket-books he always carried with him. The body of this uncollected work in German exceeds five hundred pieces, a remarkable number of which must be counted among Rilke's finest poems. They range from finished poems of great poise and brilliance, to headlong statements that hurtle through their subjects, to hauntingly self-contained "fragments", to short bursts that arc into the unpursuable. Together they share a nakedness and an immediacy of voice that make them feel uncannily contemporary and draw the reader close. Edward Snow's selection of more than a hundred of these little-known and neglected poems - the first edition of such scope for the general reader - distills the best of the uncollected poems while offering a wide enough choice to convey Rilke's variety and industry during the years he wrote them
