José María Blanco White (1775-1841). España. Nació en Sevilla en 1775. Hijo del vicecónsul inglés Guillermo White. Fue canónico magistral en Cádiz y Sevilla y formó parte de la Academia de Letras Humanas (1793-1802). Tras una crisis espiritual marchó a Madrid, en donde trabajó en la Comisión de Literatos del Instituto Pestalozziano y luchó contra los franceses durante la ocupación. Su ideología liberal le llevó a discrepar con la Junta Central; marchándose de España rumbo a Inglaterra en 1810, allí reinició sus estudios de inglés, su segunda lengua, y de griego.
