Migration of college and university students in the United States by Charles S Gossman( Book )

The 2 objectives of this study are to provide answers and guidelines to problems faced by educational administrators, planners, and government officials; and to contribute to existing scientific knowledge concerning human migration. The basic data in the study were derived from a survey of migration of college students conducted in 1963 by the usoe in cooperation with the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers. The first of this study's 2 major parts identifies and analyzes, on state and regional levels, the migration patterns of 6 categories of students. The second part constitutes an analysis of the social, economic, demographic and educational factors related to student migration. All institutions of higher education in the us and outlying areas whose programs are wholly or principally creditable toward a bachelor's or higher degree are included in the survey. There are 12 chapters: 1 and 2 are introductory in nature; 3 through 8 discuss student migration patterns in accordance with enrollment categories and types of institutions; 9 analyzes historical trends of student migration (1938-1963); 10 represents a factor analysis of pertinent variables identified with the migration process; 11 and 12 deal with a regression analysis of migration in relation to educational, economic and demographic factors. The findings of the study are illustrated in 54 figures and 61 tables. (Wm)
A Vietnamese grammar by Laurence C Thompson( Book )

3 editions published in 1965 in English and held by 348 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In addition to giving a complete description of the grammatical structure of vietnamese, this text contains a study of vietnamese pronunciation, based on the educated speech of hanoi, which is considered standard. Another entire section is devoted to dialectal differences, specifically to comparisons with the speech of saigon. All phonology is presented in ipa (international phonetic alphabet) symbols. The author emphasizes that, although some samples of speech may seem unnatural, all were recorded by native speakers and checked against linguistically trained informants. The writing system is discussed in detail, with particular attention on spelling conventions and the format of vietnamese dictionaries. Concerning the grammatical structure of vietnamese, there is an analysis of morphemes, constituent structures, and syntax. Other chapters are devoted to compounds, pseudo-compounds, and derivatives, with a special note on the construction called the "focal element." This is a restrictive phrase with a predicate as head and various substantivals as focal-complements. This grammar is published by the university of washington press, seattle 98105 ($6.50). (fb)
