On Capri, an Italian crew makes a German film of Homer's Odyssey; Fritz Lang directs with American money. Prokosch, the producer, with his sneer and red Alfa, holds art films in contempt and hires writer Javal to help Lang commercialize the picture. Against this backdrop, Javal's marriage to Camille, a young former typist, disintegrates. It opens with the couple talking in bed, she asking assurance that he finds her attractive. Later that day he introduces her to Prokosch, and, unawares, blunders unforgivably. The rest of the film portrays her, in their apartment and in public, expressing her hurt and change of heart and his slow grasp of the source of her contempt

Film socialisme by Jean-Luc Godard( Visual )

44 editions published between 2010 and 2014 in 4 languages and held by 624 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Legendary director Jean-Luc Godard (Contempt) triumphantly returns to the screen with FILM SOCIALISME, a remarkable and beautiful and challenging (Glenn Kenny, MSN) essay on the state of Mediterranean life, culture and history. It is split into three parts, the first set on a garish cruise ship traveling the Mediterranean Sea (the Costa Concordia). Godard contrasts the rich and conflicted history of the ship's ancient itinerary with the ostentatious gluttony of its well-to-do passengers. The second part descends on a struggling rural French rest stop, whose owners, seeking to change their fate, are running for office. It is their discontented children, though, who point towards an alternate future. Finally, the film closes in a gorgeous, aggrieved montage that acts as an idiosyncratic history of the past and future of the region. Anticipating the Greek debt crisis and the Arab spring, FILM SOCIALISME is both timeless and timely (J. Hoberman, Village Voice), shot in shimmeringly beautiful HD, but also hurtling headlong into the socio-political crises of our times
Breathless : Jean-Luc Godard, director by Jean-Luc Godard( Book )

50 editions published between 1959 and 2009 in 4 languages and held by 578 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Breathless, a low-budget film, came to be regarded as one of the major accomplishments of the French New Wave cinema of the early sixties. It had a tremendous influence on French filmmakers and on world cinema in general. Beyond its significance in film history, it was also a film of considerable cultural impact. Young students and film enthusiasts today continue to try to outdo one another in their Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg imitations, just as Belmondo himself in the film had rendered his own version of Bogart and Gabin. In Breathless, Jean-Luc Godard captured the spirit of a disillusioned generation and fashioned a style, which drew on the past, to parade that disillusionment. In his introduction, Dudley Andrew explains what Godard set out to accomplish twenty-seven years ago. He illuminates the intertextual and cultural references of the film and the tensions within it between tradition and innovation. This volume also features, for the first time in English, the complete and accurate continuity script of Breathless, together with François Truffaut's surprisingly detailed original treatment. Also included are an in-depth selection of reviews and criticism in French and English; a brief biographical sketch of the director's life that covers the development of his career, as well as a filmography and selected bibliography
