Exodus : the Egyptian evidence( Book )

2 editions published in 1997 in English and held by 390 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Few events have shaped Jewish and Christian tradition more than the Exodus from Egypt - and few have been as controversial for historians. The emphasis in the past has been on understanding the Exodus in light of Israelite history and Israelite origins. This book - a collection of six papers given at a conference at Brown University - looks at new evidence of the Exodus: the Egyptian evidence." "The contributors include leading historians, archaeologists, Egyptologists and literary scholars. Join them as they discuss, among many other topics, whether the Exodus was a specific historical event or a wider phenomenon spread over time, whether wall reliefs at Karnak depict a battle between the Egyptians and the Israelites, and whether the Israelites emerged from within ancient Canaanite society."--Jacket
Satrianum; the archaeological investigations conducted by Brown University in 1966 and 1967 by R. Ross Holloway( Book )

5 editions published in 1970 in English and held by 380 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Satriano (called Satrianum in Latin) was originally a Lucanian town. Excavations have brought to light traces of a small rectangular temple with a banqueting hall, an area for religious ceremonies and a portico. The town was situated at 950 metres above sea level on the top of a hill overlooking the modern town that since 1887 is called Satriano di Lucania (not to be confused with another town called Satriano in Calabria), and which, before taking the name of the destroyed city, was called Pietrafesa and, earlier, Petrafixa. Documents from the ninth century AD onward mention Satriano, which was definitively destroyed in 1430 by order of Queen Joan II of Naples. It is recounted that the queen ordered that it be burned to the ground because of the abduction there of a lady in waiting of the court who was passing through. The inhabitants moved to Pietrafesa. All that remains are some ruins, including those of the cathedral, which was dedicated to Saint Stephen, and a better preserved 12th-century tower."--Wikipedia

Stress waves in anelastic solids; symposium held at Brown University, Providence, R.I., April 3-5, 1963 by Herbert Kolsky( Book )

2 editions published in 1964 in English and held by 273 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Although the subject of wave propagation in solids has a long history, the classical theory of elastic waves having been developed in the nine teenth century by STOKES, POISSON, RAYLEIGH and KELVIN, the last two decades have seen a remarkable revival of interest in this subject among both theoreticians and experimenters. There' are a number of reasons for this; first, experimental methods for the generation and detection of high frequency mechanical waves have become available only with the advent of electronic techniques and of high speed photo graphic recording apparatus. Secondly, the appearan
