Training in industry: the management of learning by Bernard M Bass( Book )

40 editions published between 1966 and 1973 in 3 languages and held by 632 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The principles of learning behavior derived through laboratory study can be extended to explain much of the complex learning required in industrial training programs. A review of the basic principles of human learning introduces four basic concepts--drive, stimulus, response, and reinforcer--and discusses classical and instrumental conditioning and higher forms of learning. The strategy of training involves three steps--(1) statements of the content of the training program, characteristics of the learner and his environment, the over-all organizational climate, and the relation of training to company goals, (2) decisions about how and by whom the content will be taught, including discussion of both current industrial training techniques and promising innovations and the extent to which they conform to the principles of learning, and (3) administration and evaluation of the training program. Training needs and the effectiveness of training programs must be assessed continuously in a carefully designed and executed research program. Objective approaches to personality assessment by Bernard M Bass( Book )

29 editions published between 1959 and 1966 in English and Undetermined and held by 620 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The present book comprises a collection of hitherto unpublished papers which were read in Baton Rouge at a Louisiana State University Psychology Symposium, February 1958, the aim of which was to present the most recent concepts and developments in objective personality assessment. Accordingly, nationally known experts from virtually every section of the country were invited to read papers concerned with their current thinking about problems of objective personality measurement, together with a description of some of their present research and its background. The final result is considered to be an accurate representation of what leaders in the field of objective personality testing are now doing. This volume tells what many of the personality tests of tomorrow will look like and what the rationale behind them will be. There was, of course, no general agreement about personality measurement among the authors. About the only point of real agreement was that personality testing should be objective"--Preface. 25 editions published between 1961 and 1972 in English and held by 580 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Concern with conformity is not new on the American scene. What is new is the ever-growing body of experimental evidence on the subject, a direct result of the pioneering work of Solomon Asch and Muzafer Sherif. Accordingly, a symposium on conformity and deviation was organized with the aim of presenting the latest theoretical and experimental contributions of leaders in this area of research, including pioneers Asch and Sherif. The symposium was held at Louisiana State University in March, 1960, and the present book is the result. This collection of hitherto unpublished papers includes the most recent research developments in the social psychological facets of conformity and deviation as a matter of course and, as a matter of increasing significance, certain clinical-experimental investigations as well"--Preface. This book is based on the premise that effective communication takes place when others respond appropriately and all derive mutual satisfaction. The book is written from a perceptual perspective; that is, with a constant awareness of the interwoven nature of the relationship between the processes of communication and perception. Just as it is our perceptions of others that determine what and how we communicate with them, so too, it is their image of us that determines the success of the interaction as well as the potential for mutual growth
