Presents algorithm for roots of the general quintic equation with enough background information to make the key ideas accessible to non-specialists and even to mathematically oriented readers who are not professional mathematicians. This book includes a chapter on group theory and symmetry, and Galois theory and Tschirnhausen transformations
Encyclopedia of inorganic chemistry by R. Bruce King( Book )

47 editions published between 1944 and 2008 in English and held by 765 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The first edition of the Encyclopedia of Inorganic Chemistry treated the elements of the periodic system in alphabetical order, with multiple entries for key elements. The articles from the First Edition were written more than 10 years ago and all areas of inorganic chemistry have seen such a vigorous development that it was necessary to update most articles and to add a considerable number of new articles. The result of this major work is the proud Encylopedia of Inorganic Chemistry Second Edition (EIC-2). (Midwest)

The periodic table : into the 21st century( Book )

7 editions published in 2004 in English and held by 200 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This book starts by tracing the early history and development of the Periodic Table. The subsequent development of the Table is then presented in chapters that discuss the structure and characteristics of the Table, probe its group-theoretical and quantum-theoretical basis, examine its foundations, and explore its many uses and applications. Each of these chapters is written in a style that is not only readable but also comprehensible to a very wide audience."--Jacket
Computational inorganic and bioinorganic chemistry by Edward I Solomon( Book )

14 editions published between 2009 and 2013 in English and held by 194 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Over the past several decades there have been major advances in our ability to evaluate computationally the electronic structure of inorganic molecules, particularly transition metal systems. This advancement is due to the Moore's Law increase in computing power as well as the impact of density functional theory (DFT) and its implementation in commercial and freeware programs for quantum chemical calculations. Improved pure and hybrid density functionals are allowing DFT calculations with accuracy comparable to high-level Hartree-Fock treatments, and the results of these calculations can now be evaluated based on experiment. When calculations are correlated to and supported by experimental data they can provide fundamental insight into electronic structure and its contributions to physical properties and chemical reactivity. This interplay continues to expand and contributes to both improved value of experimental results and improved accuracy of computational predictions. The purpose of this EIC Book is to provide state-of-the-art presentations of quantum mechanical and related methods and their applications by many of the leaders in the field. Part One of this volume focuses on methods, their background and implementation, and their use in describing bonding properties, energies, transition states and spectroscopic features. Part Two focuses on applications in bioinorganic chemistry and Part Three discusses inorganic chemistry, where electronic structure calculations have already had a major impact. This addition to the EIC Book series is of significant value to both experimentalists and theoreticians, and we anticipate that it will stimulate both further development of the methodology and its applications in the many interdisciplinary fields that comprise modern inorganic and bioinorganic chemistry. Chemical applications of topology and graph theory : a collection of papers from a symposium held at the University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia, U.S.A., 18-22 April 1983 by Symposium on Chemical Applications of Topology and Graph Theory( Book )

13 editions published in 1983 in English and Italian and held by 187 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Organometallic syntheses( Book )

5 editions published in 1965 in English and held by 176 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Over 160 detailed and tested procedures for the preparation of specific organometallic compounds are given in Volume 4. Part I contains procedures for the synthesis of 76 types of transition metal organometallic compounds, and Part II procedures for the synthesis of 85 nontransition metal organometallic compounds. In both parts, the editors have sought to include procedures that give the safe, reliable synthesis of organometallic compounds that can lay some claim to significance in current chemical research. This significance may be based on various factors such as: (a) the synthesis describes the formation of an unusual or less common structural type; (b) the compound prepared is a useful intermediate in other syntheses; (c) the compound is a model reagent for investigating the mechanisms of various fundamental or industrial processes, such as the Fischer-Tropsch reaction; (d) the compound is a useful reagent in organic synthesis; and (e) the techniques employed in the synthesis of the compound are unusual and worthy of further application, such as metal-atom and electrochemical procedures. Each specific or generalized procedure is organized into the following sections: an Introduction which discusses the available procedures and the reasons guiding the choice of the one selected; a Procedure section which strives to describe the modus operandi, the safety concerns and pitfalls in the preparation; a Properties section that offers further physical and chemical data on the product and, where appropriate, indications of how the compounds can be employed in research; and a Reference section which gives both leading literature citations and supplemental comments on the procedure. Research laboratories in organometallic chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry and molecular catalysis have in this book a rich source of information on the preparation of organometallic compounds
