Difference and repetition by Gilles Deleuze( Book )

182 editions published between 1968 and 2017 in 8 languages and held by 2,470 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Difference and Repetition, a brilliant exposition of the critique of identity, has come to be considered a contemporary classic in philosophy and one of Deleuze's most original works. Successfully defended in 1969 as Deleuze's main thesis toward his Doctorat d'Etat at the Sorbonne, the work has been central in initiating the shift in French thought away from Hegel and Marx, towards Nietzsche and Freud. The text follows the development of two central concepts, those of pure difference and complex repetition. It shows how the two concepts are related - difference implying divergence and decentering, and repetition implying displacement and disguising. In its explication the work moves deftly between Hegel, Kierkegaard, Freud, Althusser, and Nietzsche to establish a fundamental critique of Western metaphysics. Difference and Repetition has become essential to the work of literary critics and philosophers alike, and this translation his been long awaited

The logic of sense by Gilles Deleuze( Book )

122 editions published between 1966 and 2015 in 6 languages and held by 1,514 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

An introduction to the philosophy of Gilles Deleuze by Jean Khalfa( )

8 editions published in 2003 in English and held by 1,491 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Gilles Deleuze has been labelled the "post-x" thinker: post-structuralist, post-modern, post-spinozist, post-Nietzschean, and even post-utopian. This book explodes such categorizations and places Deleuze and Deleuzian method at the heart of contemporary thought. Whether analyzing the work of key philosophers, or key concepts such as time, difference and subjectivity, or the nature of creation (film, painting, literature), Deleuze's concern is always the same. From under the layers of history, criticism and interpretation, he aims to reveal the problem itself in its own life, as it develops in a particular thought or activity. This book focuses on the key processes and concepts essential to the understanding of the totality of the work, setting these within their intellectual background and context. It is designed for students across the humanities and social sciences

The authors set forth a theory that "Western society's innate herd instinct has allowed the government, the media, and even the principles of economics to take advantage of each person's unwillingness to be cut off from the group" and that "those who suffer from mental disorders my not be insane, but could be individuals in the purest sense."--Publisher's description
Kant's critical philosophy : the doctrine of the faculties by Gilles Deleuze( Book )

142 editions published between 1863 and 2015 in 6 languages and held by 1,318 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Francis Bacon : the logic of sensation by Gilles Deleuze( )

34 editions published between 1991 and 2017 in English and French and held by 1,277 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"First published in French in 1981, Francis Bacon has come to be recognized as one of Gilles Deleuze's most significant texts in aesthetics. Anticipating his work on cinema, the baroque, and literary criticism, the book can be read not only as a study of Bacon's paintings but also as a crucial text within Deleuze's broader philosophy of art. In it, Deleuze creates a series of philosophical concepts, each of which relates to a particular aspect of Bacon's paintings but at the same time finds a place in the "general logic of sensation.""--Jacket

Essays critical and clinical by Gilles Deleuze( Book )

57 editions published between 1993 and 2015 in 5 languages and held by 960 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Essays Critical and Clinical is the final work of the late Gilles Deleuze, one of the most important figures in contemporary philosophy. It includes essays, all newly revised or published here for the first time, on such diverse literary figures as Herman Melville, Walt Whitman, D.H. Lawrence, T.E. Lawrence, Samuel Beckett, Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, Alfred Jarry, and Lewis Carroll, as well as philosophers such as Plato, Spinoza, Kant, Nietzsche, and Heidegger. As Proust said, great writers invent a new language within language, but in such a way that language in its entirety is pushed to its limit or its own "outside."" "In Essays Critical and Clinical, Deleuze is concerned with the delirium - the process of Life - that lies behind this invention, as well as the loss that occurs, the silence that follows, when this delirium becomes a clinical state."--Jacket

Spinoza, practical philosophy by Gilles Deleuze( Book )

45 editions published between 1981 and 2015 in 6 languages and held by 708 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

38 editions published between 1992 and 2012 in English and held by 705 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In The Fold Gilles Deleuze proposes a new way of understanding philosophy and art. Leibniz drew on the art of the baroque period in his invention of the concept of the fold; Deleuze develops the concept further to present a new way of practising philosophy based upon the fold as the relationship of difference with itself."--Jacket

19 editions published between 1986 and 2016 in English and held by 664 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In Kafka Deleuze and Guattari free their subject from his (mis)interpreters. In contrast to traditional readings that see in Kafka's work a case of Oedipalized neurosis or a flight into transcendence, guilt, and subjectivity, Deleuze and Guattari make a case for Kafka as a man of joy, a promoter of radical politics who resisted at every turn submission to frozen hierarchies
