This concerto is performed two times: first with the violin soloist on the right channel for easy removal by the at home player. This enables the violinist to study the score and listen to an interpretation by a professional performer of the highest skills. Faithful to his wish to bring back to life French operas that have either been forgotten or are rarely performed, Roberto Alagna recorded this version of Edouard Lalo's opera Fiesque in 2006 at Montpellier. Context: Edouard Lalo denounced the political hypocrisy of the Second Empire early on; for him, Napoleon 'le petit' was an usurper. Inspired by Schiller's Die Verschwörung des Fiesco zu Genua (1782), which rewrites an historical fact with 16th-century Genoa as a setting, in this work Lalo explicitly develops his political conception, which is clearly a republican manifesto. With Charles Beauquier, Lalo condenses Schiller's drama, reducing it from five to three acts, readapting the characters, and simplifying the action. But the main subject, faithful to Schiller's design, remains the defence of freedoms
