The great American pop art store : multiples of the sixties by Constance W Glenn( Book )

10 editions published in 1997 in English and German and held by 367 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This first-of-its-kind show, and the accompanying catalog, strive to define the context for the emergence of "multiples" in the 1960s. In the art world, multiples operate in juxtaposition to the tradition of editioned prints; they are often sculptural, sometimes mass produced, and grow out of the Duchampian idea that every iteration is an original. In the greater society, these objects were an important facet of Pop's mission to bring affordable art to the masses. The catalog concentrates on Warhol and Oldenburg, who actually opened the storefront "gallery" of the title."--LJ
Candida Höfer : architecture of absence by Constance W Glenn( Book )

11 editions published in 2004 in English and held by 337 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Over the last thirty years, Candida Hofer has created meticulously composed images of the interiors of public and institutional spaces - spaces marked with the richness of human activity, yet largely devoid of human presence. Whether it be a photograph of a national library or a hotel lobby, Hofer's images ask us to conduct a distanced, disengaged examination through the window she has created. Seen as a collection, her rhythmically patterned images present a universe of interiors wholly constructed by human intention, unearthing patterns of order, logic, and disruption imposed on these spaces by their now absent creators and inhabitants." "Architecture of Absence examines Hofer's unique oeuvre and the relationship of her architecture work to that of the Becher circle - noted students of the Dusseldorf Art Academy's renowned professor Bernd Becher, including Thomas Ruff, Thomas Struth, Andreas Gursky, and Axel Hutte."--Jacket
Robert Motherwell : the Dedalus sketchbooks by Robert Motherwell( Book )

8 editions published in 1988 in English and held by 331 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Books - the great literature that fuels his imagination, the little-known sketchbooks he has kept over the years, or the splendid livres de luxe he has created - have always played a critical role in the life and art of renowned Abstract Expressionist Robert Motherwell. Since his rise to fame as a founder of the New York School during the 1940s, he has consistently returned to the works of the great Irish writer James Joyce - most especially to Ulysses and the odyssey of Stephen Dedalus - for inspiration. During the summer of 1982 preparations for an important international Joyce symposium in Provincetown, Massachusetts, where Motherwell has long kept a small studio, prompted him to fill two sketchbooks with pen-and-ink drawings in the spirit of Joyce's explorations. The drawings, all of which are reproduced in this volume, are unselfconscious and intuitive. Most of these informal, witty, and characteristically lyrical sketches are closely related to visual themes Motherwell has developed in his paintings; but others are surprisingly direct and accessiblel evocations of Joyce's characters - Leopold and Molly Bloom and Stephen Dedalus. The Dedalus Sketchbooks therefore offers an unparalleled opportunity to see the artist's inspiration take form in intriguing and intimate ways. Motherwell's famous bold shapes and gestures are here stripped down to eloquent, simple divisions of space that formally and spiritually tell us much about the creative process. -- from back cover
