Scholar, theologian and philosopher, Martin Buber is one of the twentieth century's most influential thinkers. He believed that the deepest reality of human life lies in the relationship between one being and another. Between Man and Man is the work where he puts this belief into practice, applying it to the concrete problems of contemporary society. Here he tackles subjects as varied as religious ethics, social philosophy, marriage, education, psychology and art. --From publisher's description

Tales of the Hasidim by Martin Buber( Book )

84 editions published between 1947 and 2013 in English and German and held by 2,016 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This new paperback edition brings together volumes one and two of Buber's classic work Tales of the Hasidim, with a new foreword by Chaim Potok. Martin Buber devoted forty years of his life to collecting and retelling the legends of Hasidism. These marvelous tales--terse, vigorous, often cryptic--are the true texts of Hasidism. The hasidic masters, of whom these tales are told, are full-bodied personalities, yet their lives seem almost symbolic. Through them is expressed the intensity and holy joy whereby God becomes visible in everything." -- Back Cover

The legend of the Baal-Shem by Martin Buber( Book )

148 editions published between 1905 and 2016 in 5 languages and held by 1,494 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

These twenty captivating stories about the founder of the Hasidic faith, Israel ben Eliezer, called the Baal-Shem or Master of God's Name, provide a profound and charming account of the genesis of Hasidism, still Judaism's most important religious movement. Prefaced by an explanation of the life and principles of the Hasidim, tales such as The Werewolf, and The Heavenly Journey tell of the Baal-Shem's life in early eighteenth-century Podolia and Wolhynia, and of the birth of his revelatory faith, founded on active love, joy and private longing for God. Initially scorned by the Rabbinical establishment, the Baal-Shem's intense piety and fierce spiritual honesty ultimately made him a figure of devotion amongst commoners, peasants and visionaries. As a delicate and moving portrayal not only of the power of the Baal-Shem's mystical faith, but also of Eastern European Jewish daily life, The Legend of the Baal-Shem is an ideal introduction to Hasidic religious thought, and to Martin Buber's own influential philosophy of love and mutual human understanding
Good and evil, two interpretations : I. right and wrong ; II. images of good and evil by Martin Buber( Book )

31 editions published between 1953 and 2015 in English and German and held by 1,454 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The two "interpretations" which are united in this volume differ from one another in method and purpose, but they supplement each other to such an extent that I have willingly accepted the suggestion to unite them here in an external way as well. Both are concerned with good and evil, but Right and Wrong is concerned with its place in man's observation of the human world, Images with its place in the personal development of the individual man. The first deals with the apparent contradiction which holds sway in destiny, the second above all with the factual conflict which holds sway in the soul. Here an answer is sought to the question, "Why is evil so powerful?", there to the question, "What is the origin of evil?" Thus one can describe Images of Good and Evil as an interpretation because it proceeds from several Old Israelitic and Old Persian myths. These myths portray in great images the twofold prehistorical origin of that which we call evil and thereby enable the modern thinker to point out what corresponds to this twofoldness in that biographical reality of present-day man which is known to us. Right and Wrong is interpretation in another sense. Here several Psalms are examined to discover how the gradually arising and growing insight into the relation between wrongdoing and true existence is expressed in them. Taken together, the two books are to be regarded as a contribution to the foundation of an ontological ethics."--Foreword, pages [v-vi]
