Mathematical theory of Feynman path integrals by
Sergio Albeverio(
Book
)
59 editions published between 1974 and 2008 in 3 languages and held by 653 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"Feynman path integrals, suggested heuristically by Feynman in the 40s, have become the basis of much of contemporary physics, from nonrelativistic quantum mechanics to quantum fields, including gauge fields, gravitation, cosmology. Recently ideas based on Feynman path integrals have also played an important role in areas of mathematics like lowdimensional topology and differential geometry, algebraic geometry, infinitedimensional analysis and geometry, and number theory." "The second edition of LNM 523 is based on the two first authors' mathematical approach of this theory presented in its first edition in 1976. To take care of the many developments since then, an entire new chapter on the current forefront of research has been added. Except for this new chapter and the correction of a few misprints, the basic material and presentation of the first edition has been maintained. At the end of each chapter the reader will also find notes with further bibliographical information."Jacket

Solvable models in quantum mechanics by
Sergio Albeverio(
Book
)
24 editions published between 1987 and 2014 in English and Undetermined and held by 504 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"This monograph presents a detailed study of a class of solvable models in quantum mechanics that describe the motion of a particle in a potential having support at the positions of a discrete (finite or infinite) set of point sources. Both situations–where the strengths of the sources and their locations are precisely known and where these are only known with a given probability distribution–are covered. The authors present a systematic mathematical approach to these models and illustrate its connections with previous heuristic derivations and computations. Results obtained by different methods in disparate contexts are thus unified and a systematic control over approximations to the models, in which the point interactions are replaced by more regular ones, is provided. The first edition of this book generated considerable interest for those learning advanced mathematical topics in quantum mechanics, especially those connected to the Schrödinger equations. This second edition includes a new appendix by Pavel Exner, who has prepared a summary of the progress made in the field since 1988. His summary, centering around twobody point interaction problems, is followed by a bibliography focusing on essential developments made since 1988. appendix by Pavel Exner, who has prepared a summary of the progress made in the field since 1988. A mathematical introduction to string theory : variational problems, geometric and probabilistic methods by
Sergio Albeverio(
Book
)
23 editions published between 1996 and 2011 in English and held by 373 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Classical string theory is concerned with the propagation of classical onedimensional curves, i.e. "strings ", and has connections to the calculus of variations, minimal surfaces and harmonic maps. The quantization of string theory gives rise to problems in different areas, according to the method used. The representation theory of Lie, KacMoody and Virasoro algebras has been used for such quantization. In this book, the authors give an introduction to global analytic and probabilistic aspects of string theory, bringing together and making explicit the necessary mathematical tools. Researchers with an interest in string theory, in either mathematics or theoretical physics, will find this a stimulating volume

)
23 editions published in 2003 in English and German and held by 261 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
In World Mathematical Year 2000 the traditional St. Flour Summer School was hosted jointly with the European Mathematical Society. The fundamental theorem of asset pricing is discussed in detail. Finally Michel Talagrand, gives an overview of the mean field models for spin glasses. This text is a major contribution towards the proof of certain results from physics, and includes a discussion of the SherringtonKirkpatrick and the pspin interaction models

18 editions published between 2007 and 2010 in English and Undetermined and held by 93 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The present book outlines a conceptual framework for modelling and forecasting the dynamics of both growthlimited cities and megacities bringing together experts from several disciplines. The interdisciplinary point of view is particularly stressed. The contributions presented reflect the various interdependencies between structural (physics and mathematics models) and social development (spatial decision making and urban planning models). The volume emphasizes not only the contributions from different disciplines but also pays attention to specific problems like model calibration, data avail

Hyperfinite Dirichlet forms and stochastic processes by
Sergio Albeverio(
Book
)
15 editions published in 2011 in English and held by 69 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This monograph treats the theory of Dirichlet forms from a comprehensive point of view, using 'nonstandard analysis'. Thus, it is close in spirit to the discrete classical formulation of Dirichlet space theory by Beurling and Deny (1958). The discrete infinitesimal setup makes it possible to study the diffusion and the jump part using essentially the same methods. This setting has the advantage of being independent of special topological properties of the state space and in this sense is a natural one, valid for both finite and infinitedimensional spaces. The present monograph provides a tho

11 editions published in 2014 in English and held by 17 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This edited book presents the problems of time and direction from an interdisciplinary point of view, concentrating in particular on the following relations: Time and physics Time, philosophy and psychology Time, mathematics and information theory It is a unique contribution by philosophers and scientists who are active in mathematics, physics, biology, engineering, information theory and psychology. Questions such as the existence of a Big Bang, the neurobiological basis regarding the coexistence of free will and determinism, intercultural aspects of time, mathematical models of time, psychopathological features of time, and micro reversibility versus macroscopic irreversibility are studied.
