Michael Montfort, Bukowskis Freund und Lieblingsfotograf, nahm dabei die letzten Bilder auf, die von dem grossen "dirty old man" existieren. Freyermuths von Sympathie geprägte Erinnerungen an Bukowski führen uns eine abenteuerliche Existenz vor Augen, die sich selbst zum Testfall bestimmte, indem sie am eigenen Leib die Sehnsüchte und Laster unserer Epoche erprobte. Reportage und Reflexion verbindend, untersucht das Buch den "Mythos Bukowski", die Gründe für den einmaligen Aufstieg des Dichters zu einer deutsch-amerikanischen Kultfigur. Gundolf S. Freyermuth, Jg. 1955, ist Professor für Angewandte Medienwissenschaften an der ifs internationale filmschule köln und Ko-Direktor des Cologne Game Lab. Vor seiner Lehrtätigkeit arbeitete er als Redakteur für das Monatsmagazin TransAtlantik, als Kulturressortleiter und Reporter für den stern, als Chefreporter für Tempo sowie über ein Jahrzehnt in den USA als freier Autor. Freyermuth ist deutsch-amerikanischer Doppelstaatsbürger und lebt in Köln und Berlin
