This little planet by Michael Pollock Hamilton( Book )

9 editions published in 1970 in English and Undetermined and held by 879 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In six essays considering overpopulation, pollution, and food supply from the framework of the Judeo-Christian tradition and of world ecology, three theologians (Pollard, Shinn, and Bonifazi), an ecologist (Sears), a geographer (Glacken), and a medical scientist and administrator (Bennett), conclude that the control and preservation of the natural environment is man's right and responsibility. Although all share this orientation, each author concentrates on a specific topic. Sears describes the emergence and recognition of conservation problems in the United States. Pollard examines the relationship between God's creation of the earth and modern man's concern for its limited natural resources. Bennett summarizes the complexity of the world food supply problems. Shinn explores the motivations and inhibitions relating to family size and the ethical implications of these factors. Glacken traces the rising concern among Western scholars as they begin to understand the ecological damage done by age-old agricultural practices and industrialization. Bonifazi provides a Biblical perspective on the relation between man and his environment. (Author/AL)

Transitional jurisprudence and the European Convention on Human Rights : justice, politics and rights( )

1 edition published in 2011 in English and held by 0 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The European Convention on Human Rights has been a standard-setting text for transitions to peace and democracy in states throughout Europe. This book analyses the content, role and effects of the jurisprudence of the European Court relating to societies in transition. It features a wide range of transitional challenges, from killings by security forces in Northern Ireland to property restitution in East Central Europe, and from political upheaval in the Balkans to the position of religious minorities and Roma. Has the European Court developed a specific transitional jurisprudence? How do politics affect the ways in which the Court's judgments are implemented? Does the Court's case-law itself become woven into narratives of struggle in transitional societies? This book seeks to answer these questions by highlighting the unique role of Europe's main guardian of human rights, the Court in Strasbourg. It includes a comparison with the Inter-American and African human rights systems"--
