The English novel : twentieth century criticism by Paul Schlueter ( Book )
4 editions published in 1982 in English and held by 632 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This volume, one of a series, is, we believe, the most nearly complete bibliography of criticism of the twentieth century British novel yet published. Yet in trying to make the volume as definitive as possible, we have also had the onerous task of having to keep the volume within manageable limits. It is therefore a selective bibliography, with citations from 1900 through the end of 1975. Our choices were necessarily arbitrary, for reasons of both space and relevance, but we believe, all in all, that we have made an intelligent compilation of secondary criticism of the modern English novel

Dramatic closure : reading the end by June Schlueter ( Book )
4 editions published in 1995 in English and held by 301 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
In her theoretical discussion, Schlueter explores how literary, theatrical, and cultural conventions cooperate and collide; how the dramatic or performance text designates what Wolfgang Iser calls a text's "response-inviting structure"; how that structure activates conventions and predispositions throughout its sequence of reading moments, shaping, frustrating, and satisfying expectations; and how readers constitute texts as they read toward closure. The assumption throughout is that all texts, whether stable or transgressive, necessarily engage the question of how, when, and where to end and that all readers, whether of literary or performance texts, are implicated in closure

John Valentine Haidt : the life of a Moravian painter by Vernon H Nelson ( Book )
2 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 15 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
John Valentine Haidt (1700-1780) was the official painter for the Moravian Church, an eighteenth-century religious community that unlike many other Protestant groups did not reject the use of art in their church life. Over the years of his involvement with the Moravians in Germany, England and Pennsylvania, Haidt painted many biblical, historical and allegorical paintings, as well as hundreds of portraits; many of his works survive in collections around the world. This is the first comprehensive biography of Haidt, based on extensive archival research in Germany and America. The book includes a translation of Haidt’s original autobiography as well as of his 'Treatise on art'
