The diary of Samuel Pepys by Samuel Pepys( Book )

289 editions published between 1666 and 2020 in 3 languages and held by 1,683 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Richard Le Gallienne's elegant abridgement of the Diary captures the essential writings of Samuel Pepys (1633-1703), a remarkable man who witnessed the coronation of Charles II, the Great Plague of 1665, and the Great Fire of 1666. Originally scribbled in a cryptic shorthand, Pepys's quotidian journal of life in Restoration London provides an astonishingly frank and diverting account of political intrigues; naval, church, and cultural affairs; and the sexual escapades and domestic strife of a man with a voracious, childlike appetite for living. "As a human document the Diary is literally unique," notes La Gallienne. "It will have a still greater value for its historical importance.""

60 editions published between 1848 and 1929 in English and Undetermined and held by 422 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Samuel Pepys' FRS, MP, JP, (pron.: /pi?ps/;[1] 23 February 1633 ? 26 May 1703) was an English naval administrator and Member of Parliament who is now most famous for the diary he kept for a decade while still a relatively young man. Although Pepys had no maritime experience, he rose by patronage, hard work and his talent for administration, to be the Chief Secretary to the Admiralty under both King Charles II and subsequently King James II. His influence and reforms at the Admiralty were important in the early professionalisation of the Royal Navy.[2] The detailed private diary Pepys kept from 1660 until 1669 was first published in the 19th century, and is one of the most important primary sources for the English Restoration period. It provides a combination of personal revelation and eyewitness accounts of great events, such as the Great Plague of London, the Second Dutch War and the Great Fire of London."--Wikipedia

The diary of Samuel Pepys [for the years A.D. 1659-1669] by Samuel Pepys( Book )

9 editions published between 1925 and 1950 in English and held by 273 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In 1660 Samuel Pepys, an increasingly-important 26 year-old civil servant in London, began writing his diary. He stopped a decade later. Pepys begins his diary at a crucial point in Britain's history. In September 1658, Oliver Cromwell died, passing the title of Protector (king in all but name) to his son Richard. Pepys' employer, Edward Mountagu was closely associated with the Cromwells' reign and the 1656-7 attempt to make Oliver king (Oliver refused because he feared the army's republicanism). Following Richar'{u2019}s overthrow in April 1659 Mountagu found himself increasingly at odds with the government's growing republican elements. The detailed private diary Pepys kept from 1660 until 1669 was first published in the 19th century and is one of the most important primary sources for the English Restoration period. It provides a combination of personal revelation and eyewitness accounts of great events, such as the Great Plague of London, the Second Dutch War, and the Great Fire of London. - Pepysdiary.com & Wikipedia
