Laboratories in mathematical experimentation : a bridge to higher mathematics by
Mass.) Mount Holyoke college (South Hadley(
Book
)
10 editions published in 1997 in English and held by 353 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The sixteen independent laboratory experiments that constitute this book grew out of a truly collaborative effort. The mathematicians and statisticians at Mount Holyoke College designed a bridge course for their undergraduate curriculum. The course requires few prerequisites. All but two of the experiments require the use of a computer or programmable calculator. Each investigation invites students to observe and to look for patterns and encourages them to establish language to describe, conjecture, and analyze the phenomena under study. Each investigation leads to mathematics that students will encounter in later courses and seeks to supply the student with a repertoire of concrete examples to nourish their intuition. - Back cover
