Historical studies and literary criticism by Jerome J McGann( Book )

6 editions published in 1985 in English and held by 484 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

For the past fifty years literary studies and criticism have been dominated by formalist, structural and text-centered approaches. The editor of this volume, Jerome J. McGann, has been arguing in recent years for more expansive and contextual procedures. In this collection of essays he has brought together a group of distinguished collaborators--including Terry Eagleton, Marilyn Butler, Cecil Lang, and Sandra Gilbert--whose work emphasizes the importance of social and historical methodologies for the study of literary texts. Representing a variety of viewpoints and critical strategies, these critics together demonstrate the sociohistorical dimensions of literary works, provide examples of how studies of such literary works might be pursued, and suggest some central areas of investigation. The resulting effort to reconstitute some vital and neglected critical approaches will engage students and scholars of literature, and move them to reassess current critical assumptions

Observations of emission in bright, low redshift quasars( )

2 editions published in 1983 in English and held by 280 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Ultraviolet, infrared, and optical spectra were combined to obtain a data set sample as broad as possible in the range of hydrogen lines in individual quasars. From the measured Lyman fluxes, coupled with Balmer and Paschen line fluxes measured in these same objects, an effort was made to establish observational constraints that would guide models of the broad emission line regions of quasars. It was found that IUE spectra were generally of sufficiently high quality to derive line profiles of the ultraviolet lines Lyman alpha and CIV 1550 A, which were compared to the Balmer line profiles. The objects observed and the line fluxes are tabulated. Plots of line profiles are included."--NTIS abstract

Thin-shell structures; theory, experiment and design [proceedings] by Y. C Fung( Book )

6 editions published in 1974 in English and held by 268 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The book describes the status of the theoretical and experimental understanding of the mechanics of thin-walled shell structures as known in the 1970's. The distinctive feature of this book is in its emphasis on experimental evaluation of the theories, and on practical concerns for shell design. The book is the edited proceedings of the Symposium on Thin Shell Structures: Theory, Experiment and Design which was held in Pasadena, California from June 29 to 30, 1972. (Author)
ShakeMap, a tool for earthquake response( )

2 editions published in 2003 in English and held by 254 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

ShakeMap is a tool used to portray the extent of potentially damaging shaking following an earthquake. It can be found on the Internet at http://earthquake. usgs. gov/shakemap/ and is automatically generated for both small and large earthquakes in areas where it is available. Developed for earthquakes in southern California as part of the TriNet Project, a joint effort by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), California Institute of Technology (Caltech), and the California Geological Survey (CGS)
Si passivation and chemical vapor deposition of silicon nitride : final technical report, March 18, 2007 by H. A Atwater( )

1 edition published in 2007 in English and held by 246 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This report investigated chemical and physical methods for Si surface passivation for application in crystalline Si and thin Si film photovoltaic devices. Overall, our efforts during the project were focused in three areas: i) synthesis of silicon nitride thin films with high hydrogen content by hot-wire chemical vapor deposition; ii) investigation of the role of hydrogen passivation of defects in crystalline Si and Si solar cells by out diffusion from hydrogenated silicon nitride films; iii) investigation of the growth kinetics and passivation of hydrogenated polycrystalline. Silicon nitride films were grown by hot-wire chemical vapor deposition and film properties have been characterized as a function of SiH₄/NH₃ flow ratio. It was demonstrated that hot-wire chemical vapor deposition leads to growth of SiNx films with controllable stoichiometry and hydrogen
Third Caltech Conference on Very Large Scale Integration : [papers] by Randal E Bryant( Book )

10 editions published in 1983 in 3 languages and held by 223 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The papers in this book were presented at the Third Caltech Conference on Very Large Scale Integration, held March 21-23, 1983 in Pasadena, California. The conference was organized by the Computer Science Depart ment, California Institute of Technology, and was partly supported by the Caltech Silicon Structures Project. This conference focused on the role of systematic methodologies, theoretical models, and algorithms in all phases of the design, verification, and testing of very large scale integrated circuits. The need for such disciplines has arisen as a result of the rapid progress of integrated circuit technology over the past 10 years. This progress has been driven largely by the fabrica tion technology, providing the capability to manufacture very complex elec tronic systems reliably and at low cost. At this point the capability to manufac ture very large scale integrated circuits has exceeded our capability to develop new product designs quickly, reliably, and at a reasonable cost. As a result new designs are undertaken only if the production volume will be large enough to amortize high design costs, products first appear on the market well past their announced delivery date, and reference manuals must be amended to document design flaws. Recent research in universities and in private industry has created an emerg ing science of very large scale integration
