"This guide to the concepts, terms and theories used in human geography has now been fully revised to reflect and to advance changes in the nature and practice of human geography. The Dictionary of Human Geography, Fourth Edition contains a wealth of new material, to ensure that it remains the definitive resource for a new generation of students and teachers." "The successful format of previous editions remains unchanged: the Dictionary includes short definitional entries and longer, interpretative essays on human geography and its major sub-field, thereby providing readers with a contextual background to the terms. By directing readers to the major sources for further information, the Dictionary also serves as an unparalleled companion to geographical literature." "The Dictionary of Human Geography, Fourth Edition will be an essential aid for undergraduate and graduate students, professional geographers and other scholars in the humanities and social sciences, and geography teachers."--Jacket
Geography & geographers : Anglo-American human geography since 1945 by R. J Johnston( Book )

102 editions published between 1972 and 2016 in English and Undetermined and held by 2,239 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Geography and Geographers provides a survey of the major debates, key thinkers and schools of thought in human geography in the English-speaking world, setting them within the context of economic, social, cultural and political as well as intellectual changes. It focuses on the debates among geographers about what their discipline should study and how that should be done, and draws on a wide reading of the geographical literature produced during a fifty-year period which is characterized by both growth in the number of academic geographers and substantial shifts in conceptions of the discipline's scientific rationale." "The pace and volume of change within the discipline shows no sign of diminishing, and this sixth edition has been extensively revised and updated to reflect both continued developments within established fields of inquiry and the introduction of significantly new approaches during the last decade. There is more material on cultural geography, 'radical approaches', and feminist geographies, alongside comprehensive coverage of recent changes across the discipline. Above all, the book maintains its traditional strength of offering a thoroughly contemporary perspective on human geography."--Jacket

A World in crisis? : geographical perspectives by Piers M Blaikie( Book )

40 editions published between 1986 and 1993 in 3 languages and held by 968 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The 1970′s witnessed widespread recognition of the world as a single, interconnecting whole. The 1980′s have shown that this whole is not operating as a self–sustaining system. In short we appear to live in a world in crisis– manifesting itself in hunger, poverty, debt, conflict, statelessness and war, as well as in the accelerating degradation of the natural environment. The geographical perspectives of World in Crisis? – in this completely revised and updated edition – show the interlinking nature of global, regional, and local problems and, further, that these are not uniquely economic, ecological, political or social, but all these and more. -- Publisher description

Geography since the Second World War : an international survey by R. J Johnston( Book )

30 editions published between 1984 and 2016 in English and Spanish and held by 529 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The discipline of geography has undergone much change and growth in recent years. With growth has come diversity. Before 1945 there were differences between countries in the emphases on subject matter and research approach, although these were all related closely to three main 'models' - French, German and American. Since then, the relative importance of French and German influences has declined substantially, including within their own national territories, and the Anglo-American model has grown to world dominance. With that model, however, there is no dominant point of view but rather a multiplicity of competing approaches. These various approaches have had a different reception in other parts of the world, reflecting the base of pre-1945 geographical scholarship, the goals of geographical work set by soceities and the nature of the international contacts. The result is substantial international diversity in the practice of geography
