Report on the improvement of the management of radiation protection aspects in the recycling of metal scrap by United Nations( )

7 editions published in 2002 in English and held by 699 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Metals have become some of the most recycled materials in the world. The risk of recycling radioactive contaminated materials has greatly increased. This publication presents an overview of the situation in the scrap metal industry. It provides information on a number of national and international standards, requirements, and procedures that are valuable in determining the degree of problem that has been encountered, and presents recommendations for prevention, detection, and reaction to radioactive material in scrap metal. It also offers introductory information to help the reader understand the various methods and equipment that are available to monitor for and detect radiation in metals. The publication is aimed at the persons who come into contact with a stray radiation source or radioactive contaminated material during the normal course of business. It is also aimed at the national authorities in charge of the radiation protection and of the safety and security of radioactive substances.--Publisher's description

Regulations for the safe transport of radioactive materials by International Atomic Energy Agency( Book )

53 editions published between 1985 and 2012 in English and Undetermined and held by 446 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This publication is an updated version of Safety standards series No. ST-1, which was a revised version of Safety series No. 6 superseding all previous edition. It also includes the revision of Safety series No. 80, Schedules of requirements for the transport of specified types of radioactive material consignments (as amended in 1990). These regulations, first published in 1961, establish standards of safety with the purpose of providing an acceptable level of control of the radiation, criticality and thermal hazards to persons, property and the environment that are associated with the transport of radioactive material.--Publisher's description

Forty years of uranium resources, production and demand in perspective "the Red Book retrospective" by OECD Nuclear Energy Agency( )

5 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 331 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The biannual Uranium Resources, Production and Demand, also known as the "Red Book," was first published in 1965 and has since grown to be a recognised world reference on uranium. Over the 40 years of its existence, the Red Book has collected an impressive quantity of official data supplied by governments. This Red Book retrospective was undertaken to collect, collate, analyse and publish all of the key information collected in the 20 editions of the Red Book published between 1965 and 2004. Additionally, every effort has been made to fill in gaps in the record to provide the most complete and exhaustive information possible. As a result, the Red Book retrospective gives a full historical profile of the world uranium industry in the areas of exploration, resources, production, reactor-related requirements, inventories and price. It provides in-depth information relating to the histories of the major uranium-producing countries including Australia, Canada, France, Germany (including the former German Democratic Republic), the Russian Federation (including the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) and the United States. For the first time, for example, a comprehensive look at annual and cumulative production and demand of uranium since the inception of the atomic age is possible. Besides reporting and documenting the historical data, expert analyses provide fresh insights into important aspects of the industry including: the cost of discovery, resources to production ratios and the time to reach production after discovery, among others. Taken together, this Red Book retrospective provides the most complete record of the uranium industry publicly available, dating from the birth of civilian nuclear energy through to the dawn of the 21st century
