Features the full text of "MC Journal -- Journal of Academic Media Librarianship" (ISSN 1069-6792), a peer-reviewed, semiannual electronic journal covering all aspects of academic media librarianship. Describes the scope of the journal as encompassing technologies that include audiovisuals as the primary, but not necessarily the exclusive modes of communication. Presents contact information via e-mail for the editorial board. Includes scholarly works on issues relevant to media librarianship and application papers that provide discussion on specific methodologies related to media services. Contains submission guidelines. Posts links to college and university media centers
Information processing in the nervous system; proceedings of a symposium held at the State University of New York at Buffalo, 21st-24th October, 1968 by K. N Leibovic( Book )

4 editions published in 1969 in English and held by 355 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The term "neuronal machinery" can be validly used because there is now good understanding of the operational mechanisms of at least some of the neuronal centers in the brain, and our knowledge of these mechanisms is progressing in a most encouraging manner. The stated objective by Prof. Leibovic, the organizer of the symposium, was that it was designed to correlate neuronal machinery with psychophysiological phenomena. He calls attention to the urgency of achieving a common conceptual basis for neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and psychology. The latter discipline has been interpreted very broadly in this symposium because it merges into all considerations of the theorists in linguistics and automata theory; and of course hovering, as it were, over all of these considerations were the theoreticians with models largely of mathematical design. These models are becoming of increasing value to us neurobiologists because the model builders are now understanding much more about the actual scientific problems that confront us."--Page [v]

Review of thermally regenerative electrochemical systems by Helena L Chum( Book )

in English and held by 74 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Thermally regenerative electrochemical systems (TRES) are closed systems that convert heat in to electricity in an electrochemical heat engine that is Carnot cycle limited in efficiency. Past and present work on such systems is reviewed. Two broad classes of TRES are based on the types of energy inputs required for regeneration: thermal alone and coupled thermal and electrolytic. The thermal regeneration alone encompasses electrochemical systems (galvanic or fuel cells) in which one or more products are formed. The regeneration can be performed in single or multiple steps. The compounds include metal hydrides, halides, oxides, chalcogenides, and alloys or bimetallic systems. The coupled thermal and electrolytic regeneration encompasses electrochemical systems (galvanic or fuel cells) regenerated by electrolysis at a different temperature or different pressure . Examples include metal halides and water. Thermogalvanic or nonisothermal cells are included in this category. Also included are electrochemical engines in which the working electroactive fluid is isothermally expanded through an electrolyte. TRES cover temperature ranges from about 20°C to 1000°C. Engines with power outputs of 0.1 mW / cm² to 1 W / cm² have been demonstrated. Recommendations are made of areas of research in science and engineering that would have long-range benefit to a TRES program

School arithmetic development : movement toward conceptual maturity of students with differing number abilities on entering first grade by Leroy G Callahan( Book )

4 editions published in 1982 in English and held by 57 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This study examined the school arithmetic development of three groups of students from an urban school district who differed in performance on precisely described number tasks on entry into first grade. The investigation followed pupils' arithmetic development to the completion of third grade, for those normally promoted each year. The two major questions examined were: (1) Are there quantitative and/or qualitative differences in the school arithmetic development of students with differing number abilities on entry to first grade as they proceed through the primary grades? and (2) Are there differences in the school arithmetic programs provided for students with differing number abilities on entry into first grade? Teachers' perceptions of pupil arithmetic, intellectual, socio-emotional, and psycho-motor maturity were found to correspond closely with student number ability on entering first grade across the three years of investigation. Student performance on simple number tasks on first-grade entry appeared quite a valid predictor of pupil performance two and three years later. Arithmetic development appeared closely related to general psychological development. It is suggested that dramatic program adaptations should be considered for students who enter first grade with immature arithmetic development. (MP)
