Russell rules : [11 lessons on leadership from the twentieth century's greatest winner] by
Bill Russell(
)
8 editions published between 2001 and 2007 in English and held by 45 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
More than any other sports figure of the modern era, Bill Russell combined sheer athletic dominance with a depth of character that truly set him apart, both on and off the basketball court. In Russell rules, the Boston Celtics legend shares his personal life lessons --11 essential steps that can empower anyone to become a winner in their professional and personal lives. Leadership and teamwork are the twin towers of Russell's personal philosophy, and in Russell rules he talks about them not as abstract concepts, but as a day-to-day elements of a successful life. He speaks with authority of how the great Celtics teams of the 1960s not only nurtured the basketball skills of their individual players, but created an environment in which those skills could be best expressed--and of how the principles he learned have influenced him in every aspect of his life, from being a single father raising a daughter to becoming a successful coach and mentor to others

Philadelphia 76ers : the complete history(
Visual
)
1 edition published in 2005 in English and held by 9 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Hosted by Darryl Dawkins, this collection chronicles more than five decades of thrilling history and unforgettable moments from the Philadelphia 76ers basketball team. The NBA's oldest franchise, they began in 1939 as the Syracuse Nationals, joining the National Basketball League in 1946. When the NBL helped form the NBA in 1955, the Nationals won the first NBA championship. After a name change to the "76ers," the team went on to be one of the best NBA teams ever to swagger onto the court (68-13 in 1966-67) and one of the worst to be blown off it (9-73 in 1972-73). While highlighting such great talents as Wilt Chamberlain, Julius 'Dr. J' Erving, Moses Malone, Maurice Cheeks, and Charles Barkley, the 76ers have been a less potent force collectively, only occasionally rising to the position of league champion

2 editions published between 1987 and 1988 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The Alberta Oil Sands Environmental Research Program Subproject VE 7.1 was initiated to select suitable tree and shrub species for use in revegetating spoils and tailings resulting from oil sand mining operations in northeastern Alberta. As part of this program three field trials were established in 1980 and 1981 to test one or more provenances (seed sources) of promising native and exotic woody species. The trial site was prepared to simulate oil sands reclamation situation and the resulting reconstructed soil was alkaline (pH 7.5), non-saline, and low in available nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. No fertilizers were added. All species were outplanted as one- or two-year-old container stock. All seed used to rear the native species was collected from local populations in the oil sands region. In August 1986 the trials were assessed

Red and me : my coach, my lifelong friend by
Bill Russell(
)
1 edition published in 2014 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
Red Auerbach, one of the greatest coaches in sports history, died on October 28, 2006. Bill Russell, the five-time MVP and star center on the Auerbach teams that won eleven championships in thirteen years, said little in public at the time. His relationship with his coach had been so deeply personal that he could not express it with a brief comment. In fact, little known to the public, Auerbach and Russell'one a short, brash Jew from Brooklyn, the other a tall, intense African-American from Louisiana and Oakland'were far more than just coach and player. Through thirteen years of building a sports dynasty together, one that remains among the greatest of all time, their relationship evolved into a rare, telling example of deep male friendship: confident, supportive, understanding, founded in common goals, even as their feelings remained largely unspoken. They stayed close for the rest of Auerbach's life, despite physical distance and far fewer chances to be together. True male friends are always there for each other, whenever the need or occasion arises. Red and Me is an extraordinary book: an homage to a peerless coach, showing how he produced results unlike any other; an inspiring story of mutual success, in which each man gave his all, and gained back even more; above all, it may be the best depiction of male friendship ever put on the page. Who would have guessed that such different men could have become such a tightly bonded pair' Few did guess it. Now Russell tells it
