"Tiziano Vecellio, known in England as Titian, is one of the undisputed masters of Western art." "Written by some of the world's most renowned Titian scholars, this beautiful and generously illustrated book accompanies the first monographic exhibition in Britain devoted to the work of this extraordinary artist. The exhibition includes over forty paintings from every stage of Titian's long career, including masterpieces such as the group of paintings commissioned for the studiolo of Alfonso d'Este, shown together for the first time since they first hung in the Duke's place in Ferrara." "The catalogue to the exhibition is preceded by four authoritative essays investigating different aspects of Titian's work: Titian's life and times, by Charles Hope; his skill as a painter of portraits, by Jennifer Fletcher; his painting technique, by Jill Dunkerton; and an examination of Titian replicas and variants, by Miguel Falomir. These provide the background for a detailed discussion of the works in the exhibition. Short essays by David Jaffe introduce the main themes. The wide scope of the book and its lavish illustrations make this the most informative and accessible introduction to Titian for many years."--Jacket

Titian : nymph and shepherd by Katya Berger Andreadakis( Book )

4 editions published in 1996 in German and English and held by 26 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Titian: Nymph and Shepherd is presented as a series of stimulating letters exchanged between the internationally renowned author and art critic John Berger and his daughter, Katya." "This correspondence is the extraordinary vehicle for a series of insights into the everyday life and the art of the great Venetian master, following an uncanny incident at the great exhibition of his work staged in Venice in 1990." "While attending the exhibition Katya meets an old man, who she becomes convinced can only be the ghost of the great painter. Her "spiritual" visitor engages her in conversation about the minute particularities of painting some of the pictures there. She shares this experience with her father in a letter. He accepts the encounter at face value and discusses the historical background to the old man's remarks, seeking answers to a series of evidential questions about his daughter's encounter. From then on, the three of them, the old painter, the daughter, and the father discuss painting, bodies, animals, Greece, being a woman today, the constant enigma of existence, and daily life." "Titian: Nymph and Shepherd is richly illustrated with the famous Titian masterpieces shown at the exhibition, thus enabling readers to enter the visual adventure and judge for themselves what the visitor from four centuries ago has to say to us today."--Jacket
Tizian : die Dame in Weiss ; Kabinettausstellung anlässlich der Restaurierung des Gemäldes ; [Ausstellungsdauer: 20. März bis 27. Juni 2010]( Book )

3 editions published in 2010 in German and held by 26 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
