Hybrids between pitch and loblolly pines (P. rigida X taeda) are somewhat rare, but are known in New Jersey and Maryland. Conditioning loblolly pine stands in eastern Maryland for regeneration by Silas Little( Book )

2 editions published in 1963 in English and held by 39 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

S2Measures that would be effective in both good and bad seed years were needed. So in 1952 the Northeastern Forest Experiment Station and the Maryland Department of Forests and Parks started tests of other treatments for reproducing loblolly pine stands, namely, winter burning and shelterwood cutting, singly and in combination. This report presents results of those treatments, and compares them in relation to the chemical tools and other treatments that are now being used to favor pine on the Eastern Shore.S3
Root systems of direct-seeded and variously planted loblolly, shortleaf, and pitch pines by Silas Little( Book )

3 editions published in 1964 in English and held by 38 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

S2The study was designed to compare direct seeding with several planting procedures in terms of tree performance through the period of a stand rotation. As part of the study, sample seedlings were excavated in 1962 to determine the early effects of the treatments on root systems. This paper describes and pictures the root systems, and the differences among them that related to the method of seedling establishment.S3
