34 editions published between 1988 and 2001 in English and Undetermined and held by 486 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"This book is the revised version of the well known boundary element text book by Brebbia and Dominguez." "This book has been written to provide a simple and uptodate introduction to the Boundary Element Method. It is based on the authors long experience teaching boundary elements and is designed to convey in the most effective manner the fundamentals of the method. The book has been written in a form enabling it to be used as a text book at undergraduate or graduate level as well as by the engineer in practice who wants to learn the fundamentals of the technique. Of particular interest is the way in which boundary element concepts are introduced and immediately applied in simple but useful computer codes. These codes (4 for potential and 2 for elasticity) facilitate the comprehension of boundary elements. The book starts with an introductory chapter explaining why boundary elements are needed and their advantages compared with finite elements in the solution of many engineering problems. Other chapters deal with basic concepts, potential problems, elastostatics, combination with finite elements and other topics of interest to engineers."Jacket

Finite Element Techniques for Fluid Flow describes the advances in the applications of finite element techniques to fluid mechanics. Topics covered range from weighted residual and variational methods to interpolation functions, inviscid fluids, and flow through porous media. The basic principles and governing equations of fluid mechanics as well as problems related to dispersion and shallow water circulation are also discussed. This text is comprised of nine chapters; the first of which explains some basic definitions and properties as well as the basic principles of weighted residual and

The increasing size and complexity of new structural forces in engineering have made it necessary for designers to be aware of their dynamic behaviour. Dynamics is a subject which has traditionally been poorly taught in most engineering courses. This book was conceived as a way of providing engineers with a deeper knowledge of dynamic analysis and of indicating to them how some of the new vibrations problems can be solved. The authors start from basic principles to end up with the latest random vibration applications. The book originated 1n a week course given annually by the authors at the Computational Mechanics Centre, Ashurst Lodge, Southampton, England. Special care was taken to ensure continuity in the text and notations. Southampton 1984 CONTENTS Page Foreword Chapter 1 Introduction to Vibration 1. Introductory Remarks 1 2. VI SOCRATES: I think that we ought to stress that we will write only about things that we have first hand experience in, in a coherent way that will be useful to engineers and other scientists and stressing the formulation without being too mathematical. We should write with integrity and honesty, giving reference to other authors where reference is due, but avoiding mentioning everybody just to be certain that our book is widely advertised. Above all, the book should be clear and useful. PLATO: I think we should include a good discussion of fundamental ideas, of how integral equations are formed, pointing out that they are like two dimensional shadows of three dimensional objects ... SOCRATES: Stop there! Remember you are not 'the' Plato! PLATO: Sorry, I was carried away. ARISTOTLE: I think that the book should have many applications so that the reader can learn by looking at them how to use the method. SOCRATES: I agree. But we should be careful. It is easy to include many illustraƯ tions and examples in a book in order to disguise its meagre contents. All examples should be relevant. ARISTOTLE: And we should also include a full computer program to give the reader if so he wishes, a working experience of the technique

Computational hydraulics by

13 editions published between 1982 and 2014 in English and Japanese and held by 338 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Computational Hydraulics provides an introduction to computational techniques for hydraulic and fluid flow engineers. It combines classical hydraulics with new methods such as finite elements and boundary elements, which are both presented in a matrix formulation. The most interesting feature of the book is the integrated treatment given to the theoretical and computing aspects of numerical methods. The format presents a series of complete computer programs, for linear and nonlinear pipe network analysis, depth flow computations, and finite and boundary elements for Laplace equations. The pro

The Kobe Earthquake of 17 January 1995 devastated the city due to a series of geological reasons and the location of its epicentre. However, the analysis of its effect on soil liquefaction, lifeline systems, ground failure and other important sources in damage can help us to understand and improve our approach to the design and analysis of structures in seismic regions

Unlike the mechanistic buildings it replaces, EcoArchitecture is in harmony with nature, including its immediate environs. Decisions have to be taken on ecological grounds concerning locations, siting and orientation, as well as the wellinformed choice of materials.EcoArchitecture is by definition interdisciplinary; it requires the collaboration of engineers, planners, physicists, sociologists, economists, and other specialists, in addition to architects. The papers contained in this book were written by different specialists and attempt to focus on the interdisciplinary character of ecoarchitecture.Featuring papers from the First International Conference on Harmonisation between Architecture and Nature, Featured topics include: Ecological & cultural sensitivity; Historical & philosophical aspects; Design with nature; Assessment & selection of materials; Natural technologies; Design by passive systems; Building operation & maintenance; Water conservation
