The papers document Cox's life and art collecting. Also included are letters between Cox and writer E.B. White, sculptor Walker Hancock, and poet Donald Hall. Materials concerning Cox's family and personal life chronicle his financial inheritance from his grandfather, his art collecting, travels in his youth, his Cape Ann home on Crow Island, and relationships with poet Robert Frost and painter Andrew Wyeth. Of note are a few letters from Wyeth containing marginal illustrations in watercolor or pencil
