Gothic art by Alain Erlande-Brandenburg( Book )

37 editions published between 1983 and 2004 in 4 languages and held by 1,000 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Notre-Dame de Paris by Alain Erlande-Brandenburg( Book )

29 editions published between 1991 and 2015 in 3 languages and held by 837 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Set between the two arms of the river Seine, the lle de la Cite offers the passerby one of the most beautiful jewels of the French capital, and one of Europe's masterpieces of Gothic architecture: the cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris."--BOOK JACKET. "After recounting the events linking Notre-Dame to the city of Paris, author Alain Erlande-Brandenburg explains how the city, which Clovis made his capital in the sixth century, acquired an ancient cathedral that was rebuilt beginning in the twelfth century. The history of the cathedral's construction, as well as its restoration in the nineteenth century, is recounted in detail in this exhaustive study. Particular attention is also devoted to the building's abundant sculpture, especially the moving remnants of the twelfth- and thirteenth-century programs now preserved in the Musee de Cluny."--Jacket

La dame à la licorne by Alain Erlande-Brandenburg( Book )

53 editions published between 1978 and 2003 in 5 languages and held by 422 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

No one can remain indifferent to the charm emanating from one of the most famous tapestries in the world, La Dame á la Licorne, to be seem at the Musée national du Moyen Âge in Paris. Six large tapestries with a radiant vermilion ground sprinkled with cut flowers, illustrate six allegories of the senses - Taste, Hearing, Sight, Smell, Feel. The last of the series, the most enigmatic and marvelous, evokes the sense of Understanding, that of the heart. Discovered in the nineteenth century in the château de Boussac (Creuse), they became part of the museum collection in 1882. Each carries the arms of Jean Le Viste, who ordered them to be woven. It was perhaps to celebrate his social advancement that he chose the most important center of tapestry at the time, Brussels, having them based on drawings by a French painter who remains unknown. Even today, this "mille fleurs" tapestry doesn't cease to enchant us. --Page 4 of cover

La révolution gothique : 1130-1190 by Alain Erlande-Brandenburg( Book )

8 editions published in 2012 in French and held by 117 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
