Heat, greed and human need : climate change, capitalism and sustainable wellbeing by Ian Gough( Book )

16 editions published in 2017 in English and held by 189 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book builds an essential bridge between climate change and social policy. Combining ethics and human need theory with political economy and climate science, it offers a long-term, interdisciplinary analysis of the prospects for sustainable development and social justice. Beyond 'green growth' (which assumes an unprecedented rise in the emissions efficiency of production) it envisages two further policy stages vital for rich countries: a progressive 'recomposition' of consumption and a post-growth ceiling on demand. An essential resource for scholars and policymakers

Climate change, double injustice and social policy : a case study of the United Kingdom by Ian Gough( Book )

8 editions published in 2011 in English and held by 27 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The groups and populations likely to be most harmed by climate change are the least responsible for causing it and have the least resources to cope with the consequences - this is the "double injustice'. It forms the background to climate negotiations between governments representing countries of the North and the South, but it also occurs within nations across the world. In light of the phenomenon, what are the distributional implications of current, fairly ambitious, policies to decarbonize the economy? Based on research within rich countries of the Organisation for Economic Development and Co-operation (OECD), and building specifically on UK studies and data, this question is answered in two parts: within the Kyoto framework and beyond it. This paper complements the author's Report for the British Council on Climate Change and Public Policy Futures"--Summary

Study centres in distance education : report to the Tertiary Education Commission on the use of study centres in four distance education systems by Ian Gough( Book )

6 editions published in 1980 in English and Undetermined and held by 17 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The use and effectiveness of study centers and study center networks as a support system in distance education were investigated, based on interviews with students, tutors, and coordinators of four Australian distance education systems. The investigation of study centers at the University of Queensland, the Riverina College of Advanced Education, the Victorian tafe Off Campus Network, and Deakin University gathered information about each institution's distance education philosophies and practices, as well as students views and needs. In addition, differences in study centers by state (Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria) were assessed. Profiles of selected study centers and a model of study centers were developed. In addition, the possibility of more extensive networks of study centers was analyzed. Although there were considerable differences between study centers, there were marked similarities in patterns of student usage. Support services used in distance education in various parts of the world were also reviewed, including Britain's Open University study center network and variations of the Open University theme. Attention was directed to the British tutor-counsellor system, the American mentor system, contract learning, self-help or study groups, and the use of technology. (Sw)
