What the butler saw : [a play] by Joe Orton( Book )

"Dr. Prentice, a psychiatric doctor in an exclusive, private clinic, is attempting to interview (and seduce) an attractive would-be secretary, Geraldine. Unwittingly surprised by his wife, he hides the girl. The affairs multiply as Mrs. Prentice, being seduced and blackmailed by young bellhop Nicholas Beckett, has promised him the secretarial post. When a government inspector arrives, chaos, underpants and cross-dressing lead the charge. The final tableau reveals "the missing parts of Winston Churchill" held aloft as the curtain falls. The London premiere at the Queen's Theatre in 1969 starred Coral Browne and Sir Ralph Richardson. The New York production later won the Obie Award as Best Foreign Play of The Season."--Publisher's description
Entertaining Mr. Sloane : a comedy by Joe Orton( Book )

80 editions published between 1964 and 2014 in 5 languages and held by 1,010 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

'Entertaining Mr Sloane' was first staged in 1964. Despite its success in performance, and being hailed by Sir Terence Rattigan as 'the best first play' he had seen in 'thirty odd years', it was not until shortly before Joe Orton's untimely death in 1967 that theatre audiences and critics began to more fully appreciate the originality of Orton's elegant, alarming and hilarious writing. The play centres on the exploits of a landlady and her brother who entrap a young man into sexual company, each for six months of the year

Head to toe ; & Up against it : a screenplay for the Beatles by Joe Orton( Book )

5 editions published in 1998 in English and held by 95 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume includes two works by Joe Orton. Head to toe is the saga of Gombold, who strays onto the head of a creature some hundred miles high and begins making his way through the giant's nether regions and on toward his toes. En route, he falls into the clutches of a dominating and gender-bending policewoman; finds himself in an assassination squad whose target is the prime minister; and finally enlists in an apocalyptic war between the Left and Right Buttocks. Up against it is a screenplay commissioned by the Beatles in 1967, in which, as Orton described it, "The boys have been caught in flagrante, become involved in dubious political activity, dressed as women, committed murder, been put in prison, and committed adultery." The two works, which mirror each other in many ways, combine elements of satire, eroticism, and nightmare
Entertaining Mr. Sloane by Joe Orton( Visual )

"Playwright Joe Orton's masterpiece of black comedy is a dark, very funny account of a handsome, obliging criminal who becomes the guest, and love interest of a frowzy widow and her brother. This bizarre ménage is threatened when the pair's father discovers the identity of his children's new obsession, and, inevitably, murder will out."

In de dagboeken schrijft Orton o.a. over zijn onstilbare sekshonger, de moeilijke relatie met Kenneth, het onverwachte succes van zijn 'schunnige' toneelstukken, en de ontmoeting met de Beatles

Fred and Madge ; The visitors : two plays by Joe Orton( Book )

6 editions published between 1998 and 2014 in English and held by 35 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Joe Orton's brilliantly inventive and staggeringly bold first play. Fred and Madge are a normal couple. Or so we think until a director and an audience member start interrupting and reworking this play within a play. Exhilaratingly subversive, the play includes the destruction of the Festival Hall, professional insulters intent on purging society with laughter and a dystopian England overgrown with marigolds. Full of biting satire and sardonic wit, it mingles astutely observed social realism with myth: Fred's job is to push boulders up a hill, and Madge's is to sieve water
Malicious damage by Ilsa Colsell( Book )

1 edition published in 2013 in English and held by 34 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In 1962 John (Joe) Orton and Kenneth Halliwell, were charged with, "larceny, malicious damage and wilful damage," involving hundreds of books in the Islington Library's collection. Over the previous three years the pair had been stealing these books, removing thousands of illustrations and either using them to create alternative dust jackets for other books (which were then returned quietly to the library's shelves), or pasting them directly into a large collage spanning the interior walls of their flat. The reconfigured dust jackets were part of a decade of often shared creative endeavor. Malicious Damage looks closely at the collaged dust jackets still remaining within the archive at Islington Local History Centre and focuses on the early collaborative nature of Orton and Halliwell's relationship
