Alberto, a teenager at the time between the two wars, does not have many pretensions in life: the money to spend for and with the girls is enough for him, which embellishes his days. The middle / final part of "The long pass" is lived in apnea, in an atmosphere of possible unreality. Alberto becomes an esteemed professional with his own studio in Florence, but his obsession with Carola not only does not leave her but pushes him to return to look for her in the places where the two had frequented, only to discover that she is now (happily?) married
