The other Trans-Atlantic : kinetic and op art in Eastern Europe and Latin America( Book )

1 edition published in 2017 in English and held by 56 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Other Trans-Atlantic is attuned to the brief but historically significant moment in the postwar period between 1950 and 1970 when the trajectories of the Eastern European and Latin American art scenes converged in a shared enthusiasm for kinetic and Op art. As the established axis of Paris, London, and New York became increasingly dominated by a succession of ideological monocultures--such as the master concepts of gesture and expressionism, Pop, or minimalism--another web of ideas was being spun, linking the hubs of Warsaw, Moscow, and Zagreb with Buenos Aires, Caracas, and Saõ Paulo. These artistic practices were dedicated to a different set of aesthetic concerns: philosophies of art and culture dominated by notions of progress and science, the machine and engineering, construction and perception. This book presents a highly illustrated introduction to this significant transnational phenomenon in the visual arts

Panoramas do Sul : 19o Festival de Arte Contemporânea Sesc_Videobrasil by Festival de Arte Contemporânea Sesc-Videobrasil( Book )

4 editions published in 2015 in Portuguese and English and held by 17 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Featuring highlights of recent production from the global South (Latin America, Africa, Eastern Europe, Middle East, Asia and Oceania), the exhibition "Southern Panoramas" included participating artists from more than 50 countries. Created in 1983 as a showcase for the then incipient local video production, Videobrasil, joined with Sesc SP in 1992 and became the only one contemporary art festival in the world devoted to the geopolitical South. In its 19th edition, the Festival aligns its curated sections with the South, rather than its competitive show only, as it did in the past. The entire program is therefore oriented towards the South and its myriad issues. These issues which provide inspiration and parameters for the selection of artworks and projects for the Festival concern the diasporas, hybrid identities, travel and migration flows, personal narratives, isolation, the social fabric and insularity

Westmoreland, director of the Masterœs Program in Visual Ethnography at the Leiden University in the Netherlands, that looks into aspects of Zaatariœs work relating to desire and the recurring threat of war; plus the Akram Zaatari Archive timeline, highlighting turning points in the artistœs career, such as the creation of the Arab Image Foundation, and covering how his career intersects with the history of Videobrasil, the festival where Zaatari first showed a video of his, Teach Me, in 1996
