The great flood( Visual )

6 editions published between 2013 and 2015 in English and Undetermined and held by 320 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Mississippi River Flood of 1927 was the most destructive river flood in American history. In the spring of 1927, the river broke out of its earthen embankments in 145 places and inundated 27,000 square miles. Part of its legacy was the forced exodus of displaced sharecroppers, who left plantation life and migrated to Northern cities, adapting to an industrial society with its own set of challenges. Musically, the Great Migration fueled the evolution of acoustic blues to electric blues bands that thrived in cities like Memphis, Detroit and Chicago becoming the wellspring for R&B and rock as well as developing jazz styles. THE GREAT FLOOD is a collaboration between filmmaker and multimedia artist Bill Morrison and guitarist and composer Bill Frisell inspired by the 1927 catastrophe

Guitars by McCoy Tyner( Visual )

6 editions published in 2008 in 3 languages and held by 217 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Pianist McCoy Tyner's dramatic arpeggios, thunderous bass pulses and modulated chord voicings have inspired generations of aspiring jazz musicians. An acoustic purist who sustained a viable career through the heavily electrified fusion era, Tyner has maintained impressive consistency in his performances and recordings since his seminal tenure in John Coltrane's classic mid-sixties quartet. Tyner's vast discography includes relatively few guitar wielding side-men; Guitars, then, is unique in Tyner's oeuvre as it contains a rotating roster of high profile guitarists, featuring Bill Frisell, Marc Ribot, John Scofield, Derek Trucks and banjo wizard Bela Fleck. Bassist Ron Carter and drummer Jack DeJohnette form Tyner's close-knit rhythm section. Revered masters with a deep-seated rapport decades in the making, their skills are unparalleled; they ease through shifting rhythms, modulating tempos and tricky harmonic changes with effortless grace. Tyner has never sounded better, his monolithic chords resound with timeless drama while his expansive arpeggios ripple with cosmic intensity; his left hand summons a thunderous undercurrent while his right cuts a kaleidoscopic swath through the undertow
All we are saying-- by Bill Frisell( Recording )

11 editions published between 2011 and 2012 in 5 languages and held by 216 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Eclectic, uncategorizable guitarist Bill Frisell takes his John Lennon seriously on "All We Are Saying," on which he makes no apologies for his love of Lennon and the Beatles. This is not a collection of wry covers. This is a record by a man who can unearth all sorts of nuggets in a familiar tune's nooks and crannies. Frisell's band, too, is made up of musicians who love to hang out in the place where rock, pop, folk, blues, and jazz intersect: violinist Jenny Scheinman, bassist Tony Scherr, drummer Kenny Wollesen, and second guitarist Greg Leisz. So what do we have here? Sixteen radio-length tracks that include a gorgeous, ethereal version of "Across the Universe" whose somber violin and country twang could bring on tears; a honky-tonk take of "Revolution" that makes you want to square-dance; a sleepy, dreamy redo of "Imagine" in which Frisell takes considerable care to pick just the right notes not only when he plays the melody but when he improvises; a folk cover of "Julia" that contains not an ounce of cynicism; and an almost ambient sketch of "Give Peace a Chance" that dares the listener to find the original melody buried deep within."--September 13, 2011, review by Steve Greenlee, Boston Globe Staff
