Principles of gene manipulation : an introduction to genetic engineering by R. W Old( Book )

115 editions published between 1885 and 2004 in English and held by 2,781 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"As in previous editions, the basic philosophy of this extremely popular text remains to present the principles and techniques of gene manipulation in sufficient detail for the non-specialist reader to understand them. However, in the five years since the last edition, molecular biologists have seen a dramatic increase in available techniques and applications. Every chapter in this fifth edition has been extensively revised or rewritten to take these developments into account - including a greatly expanded section on the polymerase chain reaction and its manifold applications; a new chapter examining the impact of recombinant DNA techniques on our understanding of human genetics; and extended coverage of gene transfer techniques."--BOOK JACKET. "With entirely new illustrations in two colours throughout, this will remain the textbook of choice for undergraduates and postgraduates alike."--BOOK JACKET
Principles of genome analysis and genomics by S. B Primrose( )

29 editions published between 2002 and 2009 in English and held by 859 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"As before, this book provides a step-by-step outline of the techniques involved in genome mapping and sequencing. However, the text has now been greatly expanded to cover genomics and its sub-disciplines. Sections on genome sequencing and bioinformatics have been extensively revised and new chapters have been included that cover comparative genomics, functional genomics and proteomics. The book concludes with a new chapter describing a variety of ways to utilize genomics in biology, medicine and agriculture." "Aimed at advanced undergraduates, this text will follow the same format as the Principles of Gene Manipulation by Primrose, Twyman and Old, now in its sixth edition."--Jacket
Introduction to modern virology by N. J Dimmock( Book )

28 editions published between 1974 and 1995 in English and German and held by 750 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Providing an integrated account of the subject across different host systems, with an emphasis on human and animal viruses, this book covers the field of virology from molecular biology to disease processes using a systems approach. Featuring full color illustrations, the new edition has been updated throughout, and reorganized into thematic sections on the fundamental nature of viruses, their growth in cells, their interactions with the host organism, and their role as agents of human disease. There is a new chapter on human viral disease, and rapidly developing areas, such as the use of viruses as gene therapy vectors, have been included
Principles of genome analysis : a guide to mapping and sequencing DNA from different organisms by S. B Primrose( Book )

21 editions published between 1995 and 2002 in English and held by 585 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The aim of this successful text is to provide a general overview of the methodology and rationale employed in this fast moving field. Topics include the organisation and structure of genomes, and sequencing methods and strategies
Genomics : applications in human biology by S. B Primrose( Book )

15 editions published between 2004 and 2008 in English and Undetermined and held by 572 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Discusses the applications of biotechnology in genomics. Provides an overview of genomics and discusses such topics as analyzing and treating genetic diseases, the large scale production of biopharmaceuticals, gene and cell therapies, and more. Text is the third text in a trilogy
Principles of gene manipulation and genomics by S. B Primrose( Book )

27 editions published between 2006 and 2014 in English and held by 515 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The increasing integration between gene manipulation and genomics is embraced in this book, Principles of Gene Manipulation and Genomics, which brings together for the first time the subjects covered by the best-selling books, Principles of Gene Manipulation and Principles of Genomic Analysis and Genomics. This new text has been comprehensively revived, updated, and rewritten to encompass within one volume, basic and advanced gene-manipulation techniques, genome analysis, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics, as well as the applications of these fascinating technologies."

Modern biotechnology by S. B Primrose( Book )

16 editions published between 1987 and 1990 in 4 languages and held by 406 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Biotechnology is one of the "buzz" words of the decade. At its simplest simple, it is the commercial exploitation of living organisms or their components - such as enzymes - and thus it covers the discipline formerly known as industrial microbiology. Indeed to many people, the two terms are synonymous. However the word biotechnology could in its broadest sense also be extended to cover certain aspects of horticulture and agriculture as both practices to some extent involve the commercial exploitation of animals or plants. This broad view of what constitutes biotechnology forms the basis of this book. The overriding aim has been to combine in a single text information on recombinant DNA technology, protein engineering, industrial microbiology, monoclonal antibodies, plant and animal cell culture, new methods of plant and animal breeding and the legal, social and ethical issues which surround biotechnology. It provides a basic reference source for undergraduates taking courses in biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology and also for industrial specialists who seek further information on areas with which they are less familiar. The book is heavily biased towards the impact of in-vitro gene manipulation, which is one of the reasons why biotechnology is currently a topic of consuming interest to a wide-ranging number of people

H.M. Kalisz, Freiburg, FRG: Microbial Proteinases. Proteinases play an important role as reagents in laboratory and clinical analyses and in industrial processes. The discovery of new, highly specific proteinases and improved enzyme technology, such as immobilisation and novel purification methods, should make the microbial enzymes even more attractive in biotechnology. M. Maestracci, K. Bui, A. Thiery, A. Arnaud, P. Galzy, Montpellier, France: The Amidase from a Brevibacterium Strain: Study and Applications. In the first part of this paper different microbial enzyme systems able to hydrolyze the true amide function are reviewed. Following consideration of analytical techniques (NMR, GLC, TLC, colorimetric assay of the ammonium ion) useful in the study of amidases, the second part of the paper deals with the amidases of Brevibacterium sp. R312 and their applications
