Promoting innovation and change in organizations and communities : a planning manual by Jack Rothman( Book )

10 editions published in 1976 in English and held by 490 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

To effectively promote change in organizations and communities, specific strategies or action guidelines and some tactical steps for effectively carrying out these strategies are offered for people who work in human service agencies. The book is useful to both practitioners in the field and upper-division graduate students. The action guidelines, derived from basic social science research findings, are general principles that may be used by a variety of people concerned with organizational and community change. Four principles of intervention, or action guidelines, are considered: promoting an innovative service or program, changing the goals of an organization, increasing participation in organizations and groups, and increasing effectiveness in role performance. Each chapter presents and analyzes one of the four action guidelines. The general format of the four guideline chapters is similar, containing an introduction to the practice problem, action principles derived from research on the problem, illustrations of implementation, quantitative findings from practitioner logs, practitioners' views of problems and prospects, and getting started--thoughts for initiating action and a log for listing first steps. A final chapter draws conclusions and suggests further steps. (Author/JR)
Student power, participation and revolution by John Erlich( Book )

8 editions published between 1970 and 1971 in English and held by 396 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

These are 33 documents of a decade of dissent--college and high school writings that mirror disenchantment, discontent, despair and hope--writings that moved students and their allies to further analysis and action. They illustrate, as the editors note, "student concerns ranging from the search for personal identity and self-fulfillment to the need for revolutionary change in America. "We believe it is right to see the student rebellion more as affirmation than condemnation, more as a faith in the perfectability of man than a denial of this possibility." Familiar names appear in these pages: Tom Hayden, Cathy Wilkerson, Mark Rudd, Les Coleman, Bernardine Dohrn, Karen Wald, and more. Even more familiar are the issues dealt with: war, peace and the draft; educational relevance; black student demands; student-worker alliance; women's liberation; violent vs. nonviolent action; reform vs. revolution; political action, effective or ineffective. Major statements range from the catalytic and prophetic Port Huron Statement of 1962 to the 1968-70 documents reproduced here.--From jacket description
