4 editions published in 2001 in English and held by 990 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Coordination between infant and adult is thought to be essential to development ... The research in this Monograph -- grounded in a dyadic systems perspective and relational psychoanalysis -- addresses the issue of vocal coordination. The research employs an automated apparatus to examine the micro-second vocal coordinations of 4-month old infants with their mothers and with strangers. These coordinations are then used to predict infant attachment and cognition at 12 months. The results demonstrate that coordination is related to the contexts of partner (mother/stranger), site (home/lab) and outcome (attachment/cognition) ... a midrange of coordination was found to be optimal for attachment ... for cognition a high degree of coordination between stranger and infant was optimal"--Back cover

7 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 721 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Key thematic issues include: cultural deficit versus cultural difference; linkages between poverty, race, and empowerment; advocacy versus objectivity in scientific research; and how the cultural or racial identity of the researcher informs scientific knowledge. The collaborations of Caucus members and others in SRCD modified the lens through which children of racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds are portrayed in the scientific literature.--P.4 de la couv
Cognitive development in children; five monographs of the Society for Research in Child Development by Roger Brown( Book )

12 editions published in 1970 in English and held by 712 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Five conference reports that originally appeared as monographs of the Society for Research in Child Development concern cognition in young children. Included in a section on thought are articles on Piaget and his theories, computer simulation on human thinking, and an information processing theory of intellectual development. The development of perception, mediating responses, verbal factors in discrimination, styles of conceptualization, equivalence transformations, mathematical models, and Soviet research are discussed. Six articles consider language acquisition (the development of grammar, syntax, verbal behavior, linguistic structure, and nonaphasic disorders), while seven describe mathematical learning. European research in cognitive development is discussed: operational thought and symbolic imagery, formal reasoning in test situations, the evolution of thought, problem solving and past experience, speech and thought in subnormality, perceptual development in preschoolers, development of higher nervous activity, and the formation of identity of visual characteristics of objects seen successively.
