The little prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry( Book )

3,241 editions published between 1874 and 2020 in 76 languages and held by 16,284 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The little prince lives alone on a tiny planet no larger than a house. He owns three volcanoes, two active and one extinct. He also owns a flower-unlike any flower in all of the wide galaxy-of great beauty and inordinate pride. It is this pride that ruins the serenity of the little princes's world and starts him on the interplanetary travels that bring him to Earth, where he learns, finally, from a fox, the secret of what is truly important in life. A story full of life and light, this is a book that changes the world forever for its readers

Flight to Arras by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry( Book )

340 editions published between 1900 and 2020 in 8 languages and held by 1,874 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Flight to Arras is Saint-Exupéry's recollection of the final shattering days during World War II when, though the defeat of France was imminent, a pitifully inadequate number of French pilots and their crews continued to risk their lives against the Germans. The action of the book takes place during a single reconnaissance mission over the burning city of Arras. But Saint-Exupéry transcends the gripping experience of the flight itself to refelect on why men fight and how they feel in the presence of death. - Back cover
Courrier sud by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry( Book )

346 editions published between 1929 and 2020 in 11 languages and held by 1,846 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In his first novel, Saint-Exupery pays homage to “those elemental divinities-night, day, mountain, sea, and storm,” turning an account of a routine mail flight from France to North Africa into an epic rendering of the pioneer days of commercial aviation. The book is also a poignant reminiscence of a tragic affair, in which the uncertainties of love and flight enhance the mystery of one another

Lettre à un otage by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry( Book )

177 editions published between 1941 and 2018 in 5 languages and held by 894 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Letter to a Hostage is a book by the author Antoine de Saint-Exup?ry. Saint-Exup?ry initially wrote this piece as a preface for his best friend, L?on Werth's novel:? Trente-trois jours (Thirty Three Days). Werth had been forced to take refuge in the Jura region of France during the autumn of 1940 because of his Jewish origins. His book, however, could not be published, and so the author significantly revised his preface, removing any direct references to his friend and making him anonymous within the text and a symbol for France as the hostage of the occupying forces. This version was published independently in June 1943. The work is comprised of six short chapters which reflect upon recent aspects of the author's life (travelling to Portugal, impressions of the Sahara, living in the USA ...), and combines references to his friendship with Werth and to his love for his country

"A pilot stranded in the desert awakes one morning to see, standing before him, the most extraordinary little fellow. 'Please, ' asks the stranger, 'draw me a sheep.' And the pilot realizes that when life's events are too difficult to understand, there is no choice but to succumb to their mysteries. He pulls out pencil and paper-- And thus begins this wise and enchanting fable that, in teaching the secret of what is really important in life, has changed forever the world for its readers"--Container

33 days : [a memoir] by Léon Werth( Book )

10 editions published between 2015 and 2016 in 4 languages and held by 329 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"A rare eyewitness account by an important author of fleeing the Nazis' march on Paris in 1940, featuring a never-before-published introduction by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. In June of 1940, Leon Werth and his wife fled Paris before the advancing Nazis Army. 33 Days is his eyewitness account of that experience, one of the largest civilian dispacements in history. Encouraged to write 33 Days by his dear friend, Antoine de Saint-Exupery, author of The Little Prince, Werth finished the manuscript while in hiding in the Jura mountains. Saint-Exupery smuggled the manuscript out of Nazi-occupied France, wrote an introduction to the work and arranged for its publication in the United States by Brentanos. But the publication never came to pass, and Werth's manuscript would disappear for more than fifty years until the first French edition, in 1992. It has since become required reading in French schools. This, the first-ever English language translation of 33 Days, includes Saint-Exupery's original introduction for the book, long thought to be lost. It is presented it here for the first time in any language. After more than seventy years, 33 Days appears--complete and as it was fully intended"--

[SDM]
