"Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, an intrepid and eccentric adventurer, transferred his passion for flying to the written word by writing several classics of aviation literature, including Southern Mail and Night Flight. Based on Saint-Exupéry's trail-blazing flights for the French airmail service over the Sahara and, later, the Andes, these two novels evoke the tragic courage and nobility of the airborne pioneers who took enormous risks, flying in open cock pits in planes that were often fragile and unstable"--Page 4 of cover
Flight to Arras by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry( Book )

325 editions published between 1900 and 2019 in 8 languages and held by 1,871 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Flight to Arras is Saint-Exupéry's recollection of the final shattering days during World War II when, though the defeat of France was imminent, a pitifully inadequate number of French pilots and their crews continued to risk their lives against the Germans. The action of the book takes place during a single reconnaissance mission over the burning city of Arras. But Saint-Exupéry transcends the gripping experience of the flight itself to refelect on why men fight and how they feel in the presence of death. - Back cover

A searing and timeless evocation of the nature of humanity, The acclaimed aviator and adventurer wrote Letter to a Hostage while waiting in neutral Portugal for a passage to the United States, having just escaped from the terrors of war-torn France. Saint-Exupéry's observations on the aimless existence of his fellow exiles in a Lisbon filled with parties, gambling and spies leads him to examine the nature of existence itself. The particularity of this moment, as the world seemed to be coming to an end, makes for a searing and timeless evocation of the nature of huma

33 days : [a memoir] by Léon Werth( Book )

12 editions published between 2015 and 2016 in 4 languages and held by 305 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"A rare eyewitness account by an important author of fleeing the Nazis' march on Paris in 1940, featuring a never-before-published introduction by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. In June of 1940, Leon Werth and his wife fled Paris before the advancing Nazis Army. 33 Days is his eyewitness account of that experience, one of the largest civilian dispacements in history. Encouraged to write 33 Days by his dear friend, Antoine de Saint-Exupery, author of The Little Prince, Werth finished the manuscript while in hiding in the Jura mountains. Saint-Exupery smuggled the manuscript out of Nazi-occupied France, wrote an introduction to the work and arranged for its publication in the United States by Brentanos. But the publication never came to pass, and Werth's manuscript would disappear for more than fifty years until the first French edition, in 1992. It has since become required reading in French schools. This, the first-ever English language translation of 33 Days, includes Saint-Exupery's original introduction for the book, long thought to be lost. It is presented it here for the first time in any language. After more than seventy years, 33 Days appears--complete and as it was fully intended"--
