The killer angels : the classic novel of the civil war by Michael Shaara( Book )

4 editions published between 2011 and 2013 in English and held by 25 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Portraits of Lee, Longstreet, and other Civil War leaders are interwoven with historical detail to provide a fictional recreation of the bloody battle at Gettysburg. A superb re-creation of the Battle of Gettysburg, but its real importance is its insight into what the war was about, and what it meant. In the four most bloody and courageous days of our nation's history, two armies fought for two dreams. One dreamed of freedom, the other of a way of life. Far more than rifles and bullets were carried into battle. There were memories. There were promises. There was love. And far more than men fell on those Pennsylvania fields. Shattered futures, forgotten innocence, and crippled beauty were also the casualties of war. The Killer Angels is unique, sweeping, unforgettable--a dramatic re-creation of the battleground for America's destiny

1 edition published in 2015 in English and held by 0 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Michael Shaara published many short stories during the course of his early career as an author before getting his first novel published--The Broken Place. He wrote science fiction stories for the pulp magazines with names like Galaxy and Fantastic Universe, but also domestic dramas and humorous stories for magazines such as Cosmopolitan and Redbook, McCall's and The Saturday Evening Post, and even one for Playboy. A couple of stories were published in a 1982 collection called "Soldier Boy," and a few more remained unpublished until released as electronic editions in 2014. This is the first time, anywhere, that all the short stories of this Pulitzer Prize-winning author (for "The Killer Angels") have been collected in one place--published and unpublished, science fiction and everything else.
