Beyond Culture is a proud celebration of human capacities. For too long, people have taken their own ways of life for granted, ignoring the vast, international cultural community that surrounds them. Humankind must now embark on the difficult journey beyond culture, to the discovery of a lost self and a sense of perspective. By holding up a mirror, Hall permits us to see the awesome grip of unconscious culture. With concrete examples ranging from James Joyceʼs Finnegans Wake to the mating habits of the bowerbird of New Guinea, Hall shows us ourselves. Beyond Culture is a book about self-discovery; it is a voyage we all must embark on if mankind is to survive
The dance of life : the other dimension of time by Edward T Hall( Book )

56 editions published between 1982 and 2007 in 5 languages and held by 1,827 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In his pioneering work The Hidden Dimension, Edward T. Hall spoke of different cultures' concepts of space. Now The Dance of Life reveals the ways in which individuals in a culture are tied together by invisible threads of rhythm and yet isolated from each other by hidden walls of time. Hall shows how time is an organizer of activities, a synthesizer and integrator, and a special language that reveals how we really feel about each other. Time plays a central role in the diversity of cultures such as the American and the Japanese, which Hall shows to be mirror images of each other. He also deals with how time influences relations among Western Europeans, Latin Americans, Anglo-Americans, and Native Americans

The manpower potential in our ethnic groups by Edward T Hall( Book )

5 editions published in 1967 in English and held by 89 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The major part of this document is an address given before a manpower administration seminar by edward T. hall. Entitled "the manpower potential in our ethnic groups," the talk offers an anthropological perspective on the differences in talents and skills among various ethnic minorities in the U.S. it is pointed out that eskimos and some american indian tribes have great mechanical aptitudes which can be directed into such trades as motor repairing and the assembling of electrical instruments. Negroes are said to have great skill at interpersonal relations and thus would function well in human services careers. It is felt that now is a time when there is a critical need for maximum manpower development and utilization and for efforts to combat unemployment and poverty. It would be valuable therefore, to originate techniques to identify and develop the unique, inherent skills of the various ethnic groups in the nation and to bring the appropriate jobs into the locales where these groups live. The document concludes with some remarks by the moderator and a few comments and questions about the address. This document is also available from the U.S. department of labor's manpower administration, washington, D.C. and from the department's regional information offices. (Nh)
La nouvelle communication by Gregory Bateson( Book )

1 edition published in 1984 in French and held by 84 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Gregory Bateson. Erving Goffman. Edward T. Hall. Paul Watzlawick.
