Les deux petites filles qui s'aiment à en mourir, qui aiment l'amour plus qu'elles-mêmes réalisent leur rêve fou, l'une dans la fantastique splendeur de la cascade figée par le gel en un sublime château de glace, l'autre dans un immatériel palais du souvenir. Et l'art de Vesaas, fait d'approches timides, d'élans retenus, d'ébauches à demi suggérées édifie en un texte impeccable un mausolée d'images prestigieuses, de phrases chantantes qui atteint une perfection narrative rarement égalée dans son oeuvre.
