Burma VJ reporting from a closed country ( Visual )
1 edition published in 2010 in English and held by 571 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"Anders Østergaard's ... documentary ... is a rare and exceptional look into the 2007 uprising in Burma (Myanmar) where 100,000 people, including thousands of Buddhist monks, peacefully took to the streets to protest the country's repressive regime that has held them hostage for over forty years. During the uprising, the military turned their guns on the peaceful protestors, and blood spilled in the streets. Foreign news reporters were banned and the internet shut down. But Democratic Voice of Burma, a collective of thirty anonymous and underground citizen video journalists (VJs), heroically bore witness to the historic events and secretly videotaped what they saw. Through a dedicated network of supporters, they smuggled the footage out of the country, where it was broadcast via satellite to a world horrified by the violence against a people fighting for democracy. Risking torture and life imprisonment, the VJs vividly documented the brutal clashes with the military and undercover police -- even after they became targets of the authorities. Burma VJ represents their inspiring stories of courage and hope and the undying spirit of a people fighting for freedom."--Container

Tillsammans Together ( Visual )
1 edition published in 2004 in Swedish and held by 245 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Tillsammans, ('Together' in English), is a commune in the heart of Stockholm, still going strong in 1975, long after most members of youth culture have abandoned their notions of free love, harmoniously integrated extended families, and naive political idealism in favor of jobs, discos, and TV sitcoms. The commune's 'leader' is sweet, conflict-avoiding Goran. The arrival of his conventional, middle-class sister Elisabeth, (towing 10-year-old Stefan and shy, awkward 13-year-old Eva) disrupts the fragile ecosystem of the commune. The commune also has to deal with Elizabeth's abusive alcoholic husband Rolf, who is a jerk, but somewhat redeemed by his discovery that being separated from his family is painful. Meanwhile, Stefan and Eva's bourgeois attitudes infect the other children with the longing for the evils of television, meat, and new clothes. 'Together' may have set ideals for themselves too lofty for any human to achieve, yet great value lies in their attempt to enact a principle of ancient vintage: the one that says an unexamined life is not worth living
