Financial Mathematics is an exciting, emerging field of application. The five sets of course notes in this book provide a bird's eye view of the current "state of the art" and directions of research. For graduate students it will therefore serve as an introduction to the field while reseachers will find it a compact source of reference. The reader is expected to have a good knowledge of the basic mathematical tools corresponding to an introductory graduate level, and sufficient familiarity with probabilistic methods, in particular stochastic analysis. B. Biais, J.C. Rochet: Risksharing, adverse selection and market structure. T. Björk: Interestrate theory. J. Cvitanic: Optimal trading under constraints. N. El Karoui, M.C. Quenez: Nonlinear pricing theory and backward stochastic differential equations. E. Jouini: Market imperfections, equilibrium and arbitrage

9 editions published in 1993 in English and held by 318 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The volume contains the texts of four courses, given by the authors at a summer school that sought to present the state of the art in the growing field of topological methods in the theory of o.d.e. (in finite and infinitedimension), and to provide a forum for discussion of the wide variety of mathematical tools which are involved. The topics covered range from the extensions of the Lefschetz fixed point and the fixed point index on ANR's, to the theory of parity of oneparameter families of Fredholm operators, and from the theory of coincidence degree for mappings on Banach spaces to homotopy methods for continuation principles. CONTENTS: P. Fitzpatrick: The parity as an invariant for detecting bifurcation of the zeroes of one parameter families of nonlinear Fredholm maps. M. Martelli: Continuation principles and boundary value problems. J. Mawhin: Topological degree and boundary value problems for nonlinear differential equations. R.D. Nussbaum: The fixed point index and fixed point theorems

Relativistic fluid dynamics : lectures given at the 1st 1987 session of the Centro internazionale matematico estivo (C.I.M.E.)
held at Noto, Italy, May 25June 3, 1987 by
Angelo Marcello Anile(

12 editions published between 1988 and 1990 in English and held by 310 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
In recent years the subject of relativistic fluid dynamics has found substantial applications in astrophysics and cosmology (theories of gravitational collapse, models of neutron stars, galaxy formation), as well as in plasma physics (relativistic fluids have been considered as models for relativistic particle beams) and nuclear physics (relativistic fluids are currently used in the analysis of the heavy ion reactions). Modern methods of analysis and differential geometry have now also been introduced. The International C.I.M.E. Course brought together expertise and interest from several areas (astrophysics, plasma physics, nuclear physics, mathematical methods) to create an appropriate arena for discussion and exchange of ideas. The main lecture courses introduced the most significant aspects of the subject and were delivered by leading specialists. The notes of these have been written up for this volume and constitute an uptodate and thorough treatment of these topics. Several contributions from the seminars on specialized topics of complementary interest to the courses are also included

Stochastic geometry : lectures given at the C.I.M.E. Summer School, held in Martina Franca, Italy, September 1318, 2004 by
Adrian Baddeley(
Book
)
5 editions published between 2006 and 2007 in English and held by 218 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Stochastic Geometry is the mathematical discipline which studies mathematical models for random geometric structures, as they appear frequently in almost all natural sciences or technical fields. Although its roots can be traced back to the 18th century (the Buffon needle problem), the modern theory of random sets was founded by D. Kendall and G. Matheron in the early 1970's. Its rapid development was influenced by applications in Spatial Statistics and by its close connections to Integral Geometry. The volume "Stochastic Geometry" contains the lectures given at the CIME summer school in Martina Franca in September 1974. The four main lecturers covered the areas of Spatial Statistics, Random Points, Integral Geometry and Random Sets, they are complemented by two additional contributions on Random Mosaics and Crystallization Processes. The book presents an uptodate description of important parts of Stochastic Geometry

Analytic number theory : lectures given at the C.I.M.E. summer school held in Cetraro, Italy, July 1118, 2002 by
J. B Friedlander(
Book
)
8 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 218 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The four contributions collected in this volume deal with several advanced results in analytic number theory. Friedlander{u2019}s paper contains some recent achievements of sieve theory leading to asymptotic formulae for the number of primes represented by suitable polynomials. HeathBrown's lecture notes mainly deal with counting integer solutions to Diophantine equations, using among other tools several results from algebraic geometry and from the geometry of numbers. Iwaniec{u2019}s paper gives a broad picture of the theory of Siegel{u2019}s zeros and of exceptional characters of Lfunctions, and gives a new proof of Linnik{u2019}s theorem on the least prime in an arithmetic progression. Kaczorowski{u2019}s article presents an uptodate survey of the axiomatic theory of Lfunctions introduced by Selberg, with a detailed exposition of several recent results

Lectures on topological fluid mechanics : lectures given at the C.I.M.E. Summer School held in Cetraro, Italy, July 210,
2001 by
De Witt L Sumners(
Book
)
9 editions published in 2009 in English and German and held by 139 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Helmholtz's seminal paper on vortex motion (1858) marks the beginning of what is now called topological fluid mechanics. After 150 years of work, the field has grown considerably. In the last several decades unexpected developments have given topological fluid mechanics new impetus, benefiting from the impressive progress in knot theory and geometric topology on the one hand, and in mathematical and computational fluid dynamics on the other. This volume contains a wideranging collection of uptodate, valuable research papers written by some of the most eminent experts in the field. Topics range from fundamental aspects of mathematical fluid mechanics, including topological vortex dynamics and magnetohydrodynamics, integrability issues, Hamiltonian structures and singularity formation, to DNA tangles and knotted DNAs in sedimentation. A substantial introductory chapter on knots and links, covering elements of modern braid theory and knot polynomials, as well as more advanced topics in knot classification, provides an invaluable addition to this material
