A guide to curriculum planning in art education by Martin Peter Rayala( Book )

2 editions published in 1995 in English and held by 83 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Designed to provide a philosophical point of view for art education in Wisconsin public schools, to furnish specific information for the development of local school district k-12 art curriculum guides, and to suggest appropriate program development strategies and instructional practices, this guide stresses broad-based generalizations and related concepts that focus on major societal issues, provides a link between art and other areas of school curriculum, and identifies the basic content of art education. Organized into five sections, section 1 introduces the philosophy, goals, and current and future issues in art education. An "Overview of Educational Considerations" schema depicting the guide's comprehensive scope is provided in which the schema's configuration of concentric circles conveys the interactive nature and complexity of a comprehensive approach to curriculum development. Section 2 explains the conceptual approach to developing a curriculum. The content of art is dealt with in section 3, which examines the comprehensive curriculum, aesthetics, art heritage, art criticism, basic art making, art career education, and k-12 art unit examples. Section 4 suggests strategies for local curriculum development and implementation. Appendices list resources for teaching art, state art organizations, national art organizations, school district standards, and references. (Lh)

A guide to curriculum planning in dance by Virginia Bryant Weiler( Book )

2 editions published in 1988 in English and held by 72 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book, a revision of a previous publication, "Dance: Creative/Rhythmic Movement Education", continues and expands on the substantive work contained in the initial publication. Building on the essential elements of the body of knowledge articulated in the first book, this guide presents a conceptual framework for dance and gives procedures for creatively progressing in steps from a selected premise to a curriculum. Dance concepts, movement elements and skills, objectives, and learning activities are explained and developed for different levels of experience. Teaching methodologies are discussed and sample plans are included so teachers of dance will see how the framework can be implemented. Complementary sections on personnel, facilities, special needs, and resources are included to make this as comprehensive a guide for curriculum development as possible. (Jd)

Designed to help Wisconsin educators use computers effectively in the instructional environment, this guide emphasizes planning at the district and building levels for the integration of computer literacy competencies into various disciplines in the k-12 curriculum and the teaching of computer science as an elective at the secondary level. The manual is divided into eight major sections: (1) Perspectives (background and premise of the guide); (2) Model for Using Computers in Education (computers in both instruction and administration); (3) District Plan (planning process, philosophy and rationale, curriculum integration, facilities/resources, and budget considerations); (4) Implementing the District Program (staff development and software/hardware selection, acquisition, and management); (5) Evaluating the District Program (overview and evaluation checklist); (6) Modifying the District Plan and Program (overview, planning for change, analyzing/interpreting program evaluations, setting priorities, implementing change, and evaluating impact); (7) Computer Science (overview, definition, goals, scope and sequence); and (8) Resources (overview, curriculum planning, inservice resources, software evaluation resources, computer-related journals, computer software and instructional television packages, audiovisual materials, computer science, keyboarding, and computer equity). Five appendixes provide a summary of equity issues, a discussion of factors to be considered in teaching keyboarding, a hardware evaluation worksheet, program modification worksheets, and school district standards from the Wisconsin Statutes that affect computers in education.
