Role motivation theories by John B Miner( Book )

16 editions published between 1993 and 1994 in English and held by 317 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"To understand how organizations function in modern society Role Motivation Theories examines four types of organization and what makes them work. The theories deal with the relationships between these organizational types and the role requirements for their key performers that follow from them, as well as the motivational patterns that fit these roles." "The theories specify a set of informal role requirements that are derived from the form of organization involved and the relation of the key performers to that organization. A matching set of motive patterns is then specified, one for each role requirement. If the role-motivation match is good, the likelihood increases that the role requirements will be carried out and that effective performance will occur. So, when a particular organizational system is staffed appropriately, it will run smoothly and produce output, and will use human motivation as its primary energy source." "In Role Motivation Theories, John B. Miner describes these theories in detail, the evidence supporting their validity, and any difficulties in their interpretation associated with differences in age, race, and gender. He also deals with the use of training to change role-motivational patterns and discusses changes in managerial motivation in recent times." "Of enormous interest to managers as well as to those researching in the psychology of work, Role Motivation Theories is the most up-to-date distillation of Professor Miner's work on motivation."--BOOK JACKET

With the demise of the polygraph following the passage of the Employee Polygraph Protection Act, honesty testing has come to be seen as an alternative approach. But it has become the subject of considerable controversy, some legal enactments, a barrage of union opposition, and a great deal of employer interest. Miner and Capps provide an understanding and the tools necessary to help human resource managers make decisions regarding the use of honesty testing. Generic types of testing instruments are assessed; the writing is straightforward, with all statistical and mathematical concepts presented with sufficient detailed explanation for those without technical training

The school administrator and organizational character by John B Miner( Book )

12 editions published between 1967 and 1968 in English and held by 204 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

To determine major factors affecting selection and performance of supervisors in school organizations, data were analyzed from a school administrator evaluation form for 219 administrative personnel (79.3 percent of 276 total), representing large city, medium city, small city, and consolidated school districts in the pacific northwest. Applying techniques used in the analysis of business organizations, the study revealed that criteria for selection of school supervisors are determined by job performance criteria for the position and especially by the kind of district concerned. This leads to the formulation of "organizational climate" as a determining variable in the selection of supervisory personnel for a particular district. Descriptions are given for indices of supervisor effectiveness, as indicated by organizational reward (grade level assignment and salary) and overall potential for achievement (biographical factors, verbal ability, inner life orientation, conformity, creativity, innovation, and managerial, work, and social motivations). This document is also available from publications department, center for the advanced study of educational administration, hendricks hall, university of oregon, eugene, oregon 97403, for $2.00. (jk)

Administrative and management theory( Book )

10 editions published between 1994 and 1995 in English and held by 157 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Administrative and management theory is a product of practitioners writing in the early years of this century. As theory and research on it have evolved, it has struggled, but maintained an audience. It has in fact exhibited an amazing staying power, as reflected in the structure and content of many management textbooks today. This book is about this saga, as reflected in the contributions of the early writers, the ideas that came forth in the middle years, and the management theory ultimately endorsed in the period of maturity. The selections presented here are intended to reflect the very best of what administrative and management theory has produced over the years. These are the key writings of the major contributors. In part this is an historical documentation of the development of a field; in part it is a statement of that field's current status

This is the first and only book dealing with how the new psychological research on the unconscious applies to foundational theories of organizational behavior. An introductory chapter addresses historical matters, evaluative dimensions, and opposing views with regard to the new unconscious research. Part I then takes up various theories of motivation, and how each does or might incorporate unconscious processes. Part II is concerned wit
